I picked up Logan at Delphi, and he likes to sit in the back of the Cirrus for long trips because there's more room and he can stretch out. So it's a little "Driving Miss Daisy", but we both don't mind. We had over 2.5 hours to get to Minnesota, Two Harbors, MN to be precise, up by Duluth. Chicago made me go all the way around them, and asked if I wanted water or land. Single engine piston? Land, please. Added a good 15 minutes to our trip but I'd given us 10 min. leeway so he was only 5 minutes behind and they weren't ready anyway.
It's a beautiful area up there. The trees are already changing colors, it's full forest and hills and water up there. Super pretty, and a little desolate. It sort of looks like parts of Alaska, which I guess makes sense. All these people living up where the cold hurts your face more months out of the year than it doesn't.
Suuuure, Morgan rides in a jet down to Gulf Shores, AL and spends 2 days on the beach while I go to...Duluth in a Cirrus. The world is still a little messed up. ;)
I asked the guy there were to go for breakfast and he told me "Jane's Cafe". I could tell he was probably right because every car that exists in Two Harbors, MN was at Jane's Cafe. I had to circle the block and find parking elsewhere because the lot was full and so was the street in front of the place. I just had bacon and eggs, and I wouldn't say it was the best I've ever had, but the locals definitely love the place. I felt sorry for the "newly opened!" cafe "Vanilla" Something or other down the road and if we go back Monday or Tuesday like he's thinking, I may go there instead. Less of a wait at least. ;)
This place, like just about every place I've gone in a long time now in the Cirrus, has self-serve only fuel. So I park by it, and the very old gentleman who is manning the place comes over. He's standing over my shoulder telling me what buttons to push on the kiosk. Hands me the hose but then I have to pull it over and fuel it. It was sort of funny. He hovered over me the whole time, made suggestions and observations, but didn't actually do anything. lol
We were only there a couple of hours before it was time to fly home, drop off Logan, take the Cirrus back to Frankfort, and top it off with fuel again for a 5:40 am departure tomorrow morning. That means I have to get up at 3:45 am. Isn't that great? I was supposed to leave Delphi at 7 am, but now it's leaving Delphi at 6. We're dropping off a guy in Iowa, turning around and coming right back home. I'll be back to Frankfort by 9 am. Too bad I'll be too exhausted to do anything else the rest of the day. I am taking Brennan with me. I'll fly out, I'll let him fly home, get a couple hours in.
Kaylee's car is still a whole saga. Steve's trying to get it taken care of and it's a whole thing. The current loaner car she is driving, that she's put 4000 miles on since she took it, now has a check engine light on. They agreed to let us out of the lease for her car that she hasn't been able to drive in months. Then Steve located another car like hers that she likes and said fine, let's make a deal, and they want to charge us $10k for getting out of the lease...for the lemon car that hasn't worked in months and keeps leaving people stranded. Steve said "No way. I will see you tomorrow." The saga continues.
I couldn't get any good photos in Minnesota. The lighting was bad, I was busy, the drive hid the scenery. Shame, because it WAS pretty up there.
Early morning
At Delphi
The FBO building at Two Harbors
Like I said, bad lighting
