He did warn me that I needed to either soak a rag in alcohol to put it on the tape before trying to remove it, preferably, or sit in the shower and steam it for a long time first, because they put an adhesive on your skin and then the tape on top of that so it will stay, and he says "Fair skin and red hair, this will peel your skin off with it if you don't do that". And it will. My skin gets irritated at bandaids. So I appreciated the warning. I like this guy. He also 1) doesn't like to be touched and gets annoyed when clients randomly touch him, or even when his wife keeps touching his face, 2) didn't find being tickled as a kid funny in the least, 3) introvert. We get along just fine. :D He knows I hate my knees being touched most of all and he's careful and patient with that, and I've come to relax and trust he won't suddenly squeeze or do anything that I will hate on the knees.
We also both agreed that seeing people in town my (our) age who can't walk is a motivator to do our best to protect what we can. I know some people don't have much of a choice or a chance, depending on their circumstances, but I do have both a choice and a chance, and that's why I've been working on it. I don't think I talk a ton about it, but I'm actually doing pretty well. Left arm isn't 100% and neither is left knee, but I can do push ups, I can walk some distance again, I can get in and out of the Cirrus without sliding down the side and hanging on, I've been doing light weights, I've been doing some lymphatic drain exercises, I've been drinking lots of water, limiting sugar a lot more than I ever used to, getting enough sleep at night, and still very slowly losing weight. My face feels less puffy now, though I'm not sure I can see a big difference in photos. I'm about to have to go buy some smaller pants. I still have shorts and capris that fit, but it's about winter here, and I had gotten rid of all my pants that didn't fit me before, because I was tired of having so many jeans I couldn't wear. Now I have like six pairs of jeans that are loose on me to start with and after you wear them for one day, they're downright baggy. Not a terrible problem to have, I guess. lol I also don't want to buy pants unless I'm settling in on a weight, either, but I have further to go, and I will need my pants not to fall off, so I guess I'll get a couple. Wash one wear one, eh? ;) Steve has also lost weight, he's down like 14 pounds. He has another 8 or so he'd like to lose. His numbers on blood work are also trending better. We're working on it.
I did think of my mom the other day. Steve and I were sitting in a restaurant and I saw an older lady struggling to get up from her seat (that's not why I thought of my mom), and then the older gent with her getting up a little wobbly himself too, and after they both got up, they clasped hands to walk out of the building together. And I leaned into Steve and said "Reminds me of when my Mom said people think it looks super sweet when two older people hold hands but they're not being sweet, they're just trying to keep each other from falling over". Those two really looked like that's what they were doing more than anything else. They made it out okay, at least!
After my PT, I was supposed to do another Citabria checkout out of Anderson, but the weather was IFR almost all day long, so that was canceled. Instead I came home and worked for a bit, and then went out to Kokomo to do a leak test on the T-6 after an oil change. But if I have to pull it out and start it, I also want to fly it at least once around the patch. That's the rule. But it was still IFR. Meanwhile, my guy for tomorrow informed me that we needed to leave about an hour earlier than planned, which now means a 5 am wake-up call for me. The Cirrus needed gas, which I was going to get in the morning, but I do not want to get up at 4:30 am to get gas. So I drove out to Frankfort, and pull in to the airport to find the entire ramp covered in cars, and the parking lot too. Signs up everywhere for "SENIOR DAY". And nobody invited me. ;) Now I had just eaten lunch on the way there and now had to go to the bathroom. Not #1. And there are hundreds, and I do mean hundreds of people in the big hangar. There is 1 women's bathroom downstairs and a unisex single stall bathroom upstairs. Some things I do *not* do in public. Fortunately for me, the "old folks" apparently chose not to walk up the two flights of stairs, but instead kept the downstairs bathroom hopping, so I was able to jog up the two flights of stairs by myself. Crisis averted. Knee worked fine. Thankfully.
Anyway. Pulled out the Cirrus, fired it up, taxied it over to the pumps, topped it off with fuel, fired it back up, taxied over to the hangar, tugged it away, closed everything up, checked the oil, took out the cowl plugs, and now it's as ready as I can make it be for 5 am tomorrow's trip to Minnesota. Way up there in Nowheresville, Minnesota.
Drove from there back to Kokomo Airport because the ceilings were now 1200'. That's legal VFR. In Class G airspace anyway. We won't discuss that the airport is under Class E. I got there, we pulled the T-6 out, and I took a kid named Blake with me. He's a friend of Spencer's who has started coming around and helping us with maintenance. It was just going to be a quick flight, a once-around-the-patch kind of thing, but it took so long to get him buckled in that I decided we had to be up a LITTLE longer than that. The ceilings were right at pattern altitude, so not much I could do safely, but I threw it around a little for him, and let him fly it a little, and he had fun with it. Came in and did an overhead break, and a landing. I couldn't buzz our hangar because the FAA was over at the airport maintenance shop doing a Part 135 inspection on the mechanic there, and buzzing our hangar would buzz their hangar too and that seems like an unwise idea. ;)
That was fun, though, I enjoyed that. And speaking of T-6, Steve sent a message to one guy saying we needed to decide something on the T-6 this week. Guy waited a day and then texted Steve today that he's out of town but he'd get with us on Saturday to discuss everything. We didn't want to wait until Saturday, but that will hopefully be the end of it, so that hopefully one way or the other we will know what direction we are heading with that airplane.
When I left the airport there, I came home to get ready for tomorrow, wash my jeans so they wouldn't be baggy to start the day with tomorrow, and my shoes because tan shoes magically get so dirty looking when I wear them. Fixed pizza for dinner, pay some bills, catch up with Steve on what's been going on, and yadda yadda yadda.
Steve's been working all day on catching up on billing, students, accounting, all the things. Kaylee had a good client outcome yesterday, a tough client who had a break-through, and she was very excited about that--she needed that. Tonight she's over at the old Easter PAC which has been named the Carol Evenson Performing Arts Center, which is great. I'm not sure what's going on over there, but something fun.
It was in the upper 50s most of today, grey, overcast, chilly and misty and very Fall-like, only Dreary Fall not Pretty Fall. I'm going to be ordering more Vitamin D soon. :p
Guess that's about it! Early bedtime tonight...
