Iowa and Stuff

I actually didn't have too hard of a time getting up this morning, less than expected anyway. The weather was nice, so that helped. Brennan and I got to Frankfort on time, I flew us to Delphi and picked up Jeff, and flew us to Iowa. It was still quite dark, even when we landed in Iowa at 6:30 am their time. We got gas, and then I had Brennan left seat and fly us home. He did a good job with it. He'd never flown night IFR before, never seen the city lights glowing beneath the clouds, or the clouds turn colors on the wingtips, or how the strobes looked in IMC (I turned them on to show him), or even how the landing lights looked when you're flashing in and out. He took a bunch of pictures and thought it was pretty cool, and that was fun for me. :)

We were in Iowa and back by 9:30 am, which is just nuts. Ethan took the plane after us, so I had charged and updated his mini ipad, cleaned the windshield, topped it off with fuel, gotten all the stuff ready for him.

I went home for about an hour, then picked up a chicken sandwich from Wendy's and went out to Kokomo, to test fly the new-to-us Bonanza with Steve, supposedly. But his 3:30 appointment was actually a 1:30 appointment, so he didn't get to go. In the meantime, Morgan had gotten done with her day, so she came up to Kokomo, and went with me in the Bo instead. The Garmin 750 didn't work, which was a problem. We flew around for a couple minutes, then came in for a landing, hung out with Cameron, Steve, a few others, then went to Harvey Hinklemeyer for our old people dinner at 4:45 pm with Chuck, AE, Steve, Morgan, me and Cameron.

I thought I was going to come home and go to bed, but around 7 pm I got a second wind, and here I sit at almost 9 pm not very tired. Dummy. I should be tired. I have a very busy day tomorrow too, and could use the night's rest.

I did get a text today from E saying there *may* be a possibility that he'd be dry leasing a jet and asked if it happened if I'd be interested in getting typed in it. I'd be SIC probably for quite awhile because the other pilot would be highly experienced in jets, flown more than 50 of them, and has double my hours which is funny because I have a lot too. But I wouldn't mind being SIC for awhile, because I don't know jack about the thing. Except that it's a required two pilot crew. E says I'd like the guy, they like the guy, and he considers them family too, so we'd likely get along. I hope so, because sitting next to someone you can't stand is one reason I never went into airlines in the first place. ;) But we're not telling anyone here about it yet, because we don't know that it'll even happen, and it would start too many questions on some other things. I would like to get a jet type some day. It's the one thing I've never flown, and while I don't care about jets themselves, I want to at least do one--don't care which one, don't know a thing about them--just would like to get one type just to do it. Same reason I got my remote pilot UAS certificate even though I've never flown a drone in my life. Because it's there. ;) But don't tell anyone around here. Shh.

Tomorrow: 11 am formation parade fly-over in T-6s, 172 lesson at HHG, then Cub checkout at MZZ, then home after dark.

I might be getting tired finally...

Oh I AM getting tired. I got an email tonight from Children's Christian Academy about a former teacher of ours who was arrested. For online crimes relating to sending harmful material to seduce a minor, child porn, etc. One of our school teachers was just arrested for sexual crimes against minors. Online only as far as I know, the case originated in California, she lives here and was arrested here. She was a teacher last year and the year before, but not this year. Her daughter goes to this school. I cannot begin to describe the level of badness. The letter that the school put out reminded people that it isn't our place to judge. Seducing minors online, possessing child porn? Who knows what else in real life? Oh, I'm judging all right. I'm judging hard. If guilty, particularly if children were harmed in any way, I cannot begin to put in writing the things I want to happen to her.

I think the RV/RG thing might be done. We're supposed to have a conversation on the T-6 tomorrow. Fingers crossed.
