Back to the Sky Finally

Kaylee's doing all right her first day back, said it was mostly good meeting up with her roomies again, and so forth. I haven't heard how her first day of classes went today, but I assume I might hear if it wasn't good.

I flew about 4 hours today, so that's pretty much what my update is.  This morning I woke up at 6:45 am because I needed to get the 172 to Muncie by 8:30. It was a little IFR and I couldn't fly this 172 IFR, so I decided I'd get a Special VFR into the tower controlled field. It was 1000' at Kokomo, and 900' at Muncie. So I took off, and flew over, and halfway there listened to their ATIS and heard that the tower was closed. I thought, cool, I'll just sneak in without having to request a Special VFR.  I make a radio call 10 miles out, and tower comes back and clears me for a downwind. I am surprised, and ask if he knows their ATIS is still reporting they're closed. He was not aware, and fixed that, and now I heard that the ceilings were up to 1000' there, too. So it was good enough to get in.

I sat and waited at Muncie while they did the VFR transponder check. At the end the guy said "You know this transponder is 50 years old. One of these days you guys will have to expand your....market." Real condescending.  It IS an old transponder. In an old trainer, that doesn't go IFR or have a panel-mounted GPS, on a trainer we keep low key so people can learn to land as inexpensively as possible. You don't need a new transponder to learn how to fly or land. When you're ready for fancy transponders, we have the RG.  I didn't appreciate his snark, and I snapped back at him a little. Then I felt bad about that, and then I told Steve and he said I did the right thing.  lol

After lunch I flew with Isabel, getting familiar with the RG.  Then came Morgan, doing checkride prep instrument approaches. We landed as the sun was down, topped off with gas for the next day, and then I ran to town to go to a school board meeting.

Tonight's discussion was about the budget and pricing. Good times. ;)

Made it home, the cat is eating pretty well, and tomorrow is another busy aviation day if all goes well.

A little bit on top of the haze and clouds on the way home after it started burning off.

Sunset in the RG

The lights of home.
