Mid Week, Mid Month

I got a Champ flight in this morning starting at 9.  By 10:30 the winds aloft were obviously picking up, as we ended up flying sideways in the pattern.  By 11 am the winds were moving down to the surface, so we landed it and called it a day.  I canceled my T-6 training guy, because it was 30 knots in Terre Haute, and neither he nor I need that in there.  My evening flight canceled himself, not wanting to deal with the winds.  So lately I've been getting one flight in in the mornings, but at least I'm getting in the one.

I was supposed to take a trip with 8 folks in the Cheyenne to Minneapolis tomorrow morning.  Unfortunately one of the folks in the factory tested Covid positive, so they are not putting other members of the factory into a small plane all together until they find out who all was exposed, which is a good plan.  Indiana's numbers of positives are climbing rapidly again.  Fatality rates aren't bad, but overall numbers are up.  Then, on Sunday I was supposed to travel to Greenwood and speak at a 99's (women pilot group) meeting.  I still hadn't figured out what to talk about.  Well, I could talk, but having visual aids, a presentation or something, THAT I didn't have.  She texted me today that one of their members also tested Covid positive, so they are canceling their meetings until January, and asked if I'd be willing to come in January.  Well, that gives me a little more time to figure out what on earth to say.  Probably won't be able to fly the T-6 down like originally planned though.  Oh well.  I'd rather wait till then anyway.  Or not do it at all.  ;)

We have a new furnace set in place now.  Still don't have it hooked up or working, but the little electrical heaters are keeping the house warm enough at this point, until he does get it hooked up and working.

Kaylee went hiking with some friends, and looked like she had a great time.  Like I said, not hearing from her generally means she's doing well.  She seems to be.  This is good.

Kaylee called me tonight after I posted this.  She is doing a school exercise where they set you up in a scenario and you have to figure out how to survive.  She is a single mother paying child support with bipolar disorder who just lost her job, and is trying to pay for her meds, insurance, rent, utilities, take a college course to better herself.  She said "Well, Mom, do I go to jail or homeless, because I don't have enough money to do any of this."  I was on the phone with her for a long time, and it was funny.  I was telling her to pay her rent, or most of it, and at least her water bill, and her meds, and skip the child support and clothing and food, and go for food stamps, and do NOT go take that loan out with high interest, and survive.  She said they were making it impossible, like you'd have to be in line too long for food stamps and they'd close, etc.  I told her it sounded like they were trying to set everyone up to fail, to show them how tough all these decisions were for people in real life, that there aren't always "right" answers, that sometimes you just can't win. She's in a Social Work major, remember.

Which reminds me, I accidentally ended up down a psychological rabbit hole off of an aviation page of all things.  I hadn't remembered this from my Psych class in college, but "Dismissive-Avoidant Attachment"?  Well, hello! Description here. It doesn't all fit, but a lot does. Fiercely independent, annoyed with others' emotions, self-contained, etc.  I texted that to Kaylee, who said "Yeah, I thought about that when we went over that in our Psych class."  Ha, busted...

I'm sending out a few more SMA Support thank yous/receipts that have come in.  Paying bills.  Transferring money.  You know, stuff.  No pictures from today.
