Next Round

The weather was too bad to do much today, so one poor guy's checkride was canceled. Now I'm not sure when he'll get it in.

I called Ann's doctors and canceled one appointment, and have a message in to reschedule another.  I called Kaylee's ortho and had to leave a message about when she could get in to finish up about her invisiline.  I called my hair salon, to see if 1) they were still doing appointments and 2) if my stylist even wanted to, because she's pregnant.  They said "yes" and "yes".  I'd had a previously scheduled appointment for Monday.  This afternoon she called me on her cell phone and said Friday at 5 pm everything was shutting down, and would I like to move it to Friday morning.  I asked her directly, do you WANT to do this appointment, or would you prefer to wait, because my hair never has been and never will be all that important.  She said she wants to do it, she needs it.  So I moved to do it Friday morning instead.

Our county is declaring a public health emergency, and all non-essential travel and businesses are to close down.  The list of businesses to remain open include doctors, lawyers, grocery and convenience stores, gas stations, etc.  It also says airports, though we all know they mean airline travel.  You're not supposed to drive anywhere except to essential functions like work, or the above.  Two weeks.  I'll guess it's a good time to keep working on all the maintenance on the airplanes, minus spending money on people and parts to do it.   I'm not sure about what flying will be done or not done yet.  I mean, Billy Bob alone in his Cessna in the pattern poses minimal if any risk to anyone.  I never have been good at following rules "because I said so".  Instructing will probably stop.  Business trips?  You're allowed to go to work, if your work is open.  I don't know, we'll just have to see what happens.

Two really weird things happened today.  Chicago Midway's tower got shut down because some of the workers were infected.  So Midway was an uncontrolled airport all day, and all the VFR locals ran out to go play at Midway while they could.  Southwest Airline guys were still going in and out, but now they got to deal with Bob in his Cessna in the pattern at the same time.  I find that sort of funny to be honest.  Secondly, an earthquake hit Salt Lake City, and closed THAT tower and I think airport down for awhile.  Last but not least, did you know there is a locust plague in Africa right now?  As in, one of the worst swarms seen, putting the food supply (which is already meager) at risk.  So, we've had wildfires that wiped out Australia, locusts wiping out Africa, earthquakes around, including SLC, and a global pandemic.  Pretty sure there's a Bible verse about this.

In the meantime tonight, Kaylee is making biscuits and scrambled eggs and red pepper at 11 pm.  So I'm going to go help. Because, why not?  :)
