Kaylee learned tonight that her school is online only for the entire rest of the semester, which is like the end of May beginning of June. The thought makes her crazy, she hates sitting on the computer and doing online classes and not being able to get out and about and do things. But such are the times we currently live in. She has to be fully moved out by the 23rd. We wonder if we'll get a refund on housing and food. Or if it'll roll over into next semester.
I drove around today and saw signs in windows, businesses closed down, all the chairs sitting on the tables at fast food restaurants. There's even a sign on the door at the FBO at Kokomo, but the doors aren't locked and pilots can go in. It's just not open to the "public". I went to Meijer and half their shelves were bare in the grocery aisles. No milk, no TP, no bananas or flour or sugar or soup or... It feels like the opening scenes of any end of the world disaster movie, before it actually gets bad and zombies chase people around. The National Guard was just activated. It's not the end of the world, but it feels really...weird.
I had one student today. We wiped down the touchable surfaces, including the headset, tow bar, hangar door button. While we were up, it was kind of neat temporarily, that both our 172s were up, and so was our 172RG. It was good to see, even if just for the moment. When we got back to the hangar, we used wipes to clean our phones after washing our hands. So we're doing our best to be careful. I even wiped down the steering wheel of my car whenever I come out of a store or have touched something. I'm not worried about me. But I do come in daily contact with Ann, who does not need to catch anything, let alone a respiratory illness.
After I flew, that's when I went to Meijer. People seemed to be in relatively good spirits, even with the low supplies. One very old gentleman went up to the pharmacy counter there and asked if they had any masks. The lady behind the counter shook her head at first, and then went back and got him one anyway. Good for her. You can't help them all, but no reason not to help the ones you can while you can. I couldn't get half of what Ann usually gets--they were out of crackers, bananas, milk, etc. And like I said, when I tried to do a pick up order at Wal-Mart, they canceled my whole order and said "Nope, try again some other time". Kroger is picked out. I'll need to find some more of her stuff soon.
I was supposed to do more T-6 flying tomorrow, and the weather up there was great for tomorrow. But the weather here was going to be IFR and really don't want to shoot low-ish approaches in the Toga, and I don't have another airplane right now. Well, the student's wife fixed that. She wasn't happy with him going out to the airport and spending the day, and wants him home with her. So he canceled. Instead, I'll be working on some stuff at home, seeing if I can rebuild our checklists for the three phases of training for our student tracking system. Steve has been cranking out a ton of work. He got the taxes done, the new scheduling rolling, he's working on billing, he's working on maintenance tracking system stuff, he's just...cranking it out as best he can.
Tom Brady is leaving the Patriots. Sounds like I'll have a new team to hate soon. ;)
