Closing In

If all goes as planned, Kaylee's driving test should be Feb. 15th.  She's finished up her required driving hours, she's got her 6 hours of drive time scheduled with the driver's ed place, and she and I have gone out a few times and worked on stuff before she gets there.  Tonight we went onto the highway, worked on merging, then went to Kohl's to practice parking.  You know, just pulling in, backing out properly without hitting anything, and we're going to do more of that before her first driver's ed drive, and add in parallel parking too, something she hasn't even tried and certainly won't have mastered fast.  Her first official drive of six is next Wednesday, I believe, so we have a week to try to get some of that in.  Mostly because you don't want to show up to a place totally green before your driver's ed test.  It'll be great, because her same instructor will be the guy giving her the driving test, so they'll know each other, which takes the pressure off.  It costs like $300, but it'll give us a discount on insurance, and sets her up to succeed on the test more certainly than walking in cold to the BMV with none of us knowing how to prep her.   We're all looking forward to her being able to drive.  Today I drove her to quartet practice at 5, got home at 5:30, turned around at 5:45 and drove back to Greentown to pick her up, but she wasn't ready, so I sat in a parking lot for 30 minutes and read a book.  This is why it will behoove both of us for her to be able to drive herself.  But still, once she is driving herself, we won't talk as much, won't see her as much.  I'll miss parts of that.

She's 17 years old now!  Next year she'll be getting ready for graduation.  Weird, huh?
