Kaylee bought these tablets that change your taste buds, removing the "sour" receptors. I tried one with her, and we ate or drank a bunch of sour things, and it was WEIRD. Red wine tasted like grape juice. Straight lemon juice tasted like lemonade. Sour gummy bears were sweet. I even drank vinegar, and you could smell the kick a little, but not taste a thing. Dill pickles tasted like sweet pickles. It was the weirdest sensation! It only lasted for 30 minutes, and everything you ate that was already sweet tasted the same, normal, but anything with any kind of kick to it, even cheese or Tabasco sauce, tasted like the sour was zapped and replaced with sweet. Super weird. Steve declined to try it. ;)
I pulled Kaylee out of school at 1 pm today, and took her to her orthodontic appointment, where she was fitted for these little teeth-colored nubs that go on her teeth, a few of her teeth filed down, and she got her Invisiline trays. She'll have 58 trays, which is 58 weeks of wearing them. So far she's feeling the pressure on her teeth, which feel weird, two of the nubs have already fallen off (they say they'll replace them next time she comes in), and the bottom tray is rubbing her tongue sore. That sounds about right for dealing with braces. She'll have them for over a year, so here's hoping the tongue thing can be resolved.
She's excited about finishing up driving and being able to drive herself to and from appointments, practices, concert after-parties, etc. Steve is excited about it too. I sort of am. She's jumping ahead and leaping in on growing up on us now!
I had a flight today, a cross-country flight. It was a pretty day for it, a little breezy and bumpy down low, but sunny and warm for January. We were all happy to be able to get it in. Steve had one at the same time. Meanwhile Kaylee had voice (interesting with the invisiline in) and piano, and I had to drop her off early and have her friend take her to school to wait for us. Did I mention she'll be glad when she has her own car? ;)
Tonight Kaylee's church youth director and her husband stopped over at the house to surprise Kaylee with birthday hats and sing happy birthday to her, and bring her some homemade cookies. That was kind of them, and they seem like a super nice couple. They are taking her to Puerto Rico this summer for a disaster relief mission trip. It'll be a lot of hard work for her, in July none-the-less, but that'll be good for her, and hopefully they can accomplish some things and actually help.
Steve started looking into getting a trailer for Oshkosh. It's January. The RV places are already sold out. He found one RV from one place that was available, and he snatched it. It's smaller than we'd like, but it's newer, and the price was reasonable. Six months ahead of the event, the RVs are all gone. Unreal!! Good thing he looked into it when he did!
