Steve dropped Kaylee off at school early this morning for a band practice and then competition, swung back by the house and picked me up, and we had a nice breakfast at Cracker Barrel. It's one time and place where, when I asked for my bacon "extra crispy, you can even burn it", that they took me seriously and actually burnt it. lol Unfortunately they also burnt Steve's bacon (he's a guy who likes his more chewy, ick), and they burnt his hashbrowns, and they burnt my toast. Somehow most of it still tasted really good. Must've been hungry. ;)
This afternoon we drove down south of Indy to watch Kaylee's band competition. There were five bands in Class D (her school's class). There was one zombie like routine, one demons and angels routine, a jazz routine, a kind of normal one, and then Kaylee's school, which did "The Giving Tree" routine. It was an ISSMA competition so we're not supposed to blog or post anywhere what the results were, but they got a Gold on their routine, and came in at the middle of the pack on ranking. The jazz guys were really good, I figured they'd come in first. The zombie one was interesting, they had a lot of choreography. One even had a singer in it, and ours had a narrator reading a book. Marching bands have apparently changed a lot over the years--they used to just...march and play. Now they have these big themes, tell stories. It's interesting.
Afterwards we stopped at Chick-Fil-A for a sammich and headed on home. Today was a warbird get-together in Huntington. They had a pretty good turn-out, it looked like, with a 12-airplane formation going to lunch at Muncie. I had thought about going. Don't really have an airplane in which to go, though I could have taken the 172RG. But instead I went to see Kaylee's band performance, and I think it was fortuitous for a few of us that I did. On our way down, I got a text from her asking if I had any Excedrin Migraine. A band member of hers was sick with a bad migraine, wasn't even able to function, and not one Band Mom, band member, or teacher there had a single aspirin with them. This girl needed something stronger than an aspirin too. Well, the Sunday of the BBQ Bash, I had a bad headache that got so bad, after I'd already had as much Tylenol and Advil both that I could, that Justin P. ran to the corner store and picked up a small bottle of Excedrin Migraine. It kicked my headache quickly, thank heavens, and I put the bottle in my purse and just never took it out yet. So today, when Kaylee asked if I had any, I remembered I happened to have a bottle of the exact medicine her friend was requesting. I'm not supposed to give medication to someone else's teenager without permission. I did it anyway. So sue me. Kaylee said the girl was back on her feet and recovered before they had to go play. So it was a success.
I started watching some TV lately, after not watching at all for a couple months. Something I've noticed with all the new shows--they all recycle actors and actresses. New show, same people. I mean...every show I can think of has a recognizable actor from another series. The guy from CSI: Miami is now on Criminal Minds, a girl from Mike and Molly has her own new show, the FBI agent on "Designated Survivor" used to be the head of a stalker unit on "Stalker". Girl from "Walking Dead" is on "Conviction". Someone from NCIS is on his own. Matt LeBlonc has his own new show. The guy from "Pure Genius" was a bad guy on another show. Kevin James from "King of Queens" has a new girl on a new show where he can be a goofball. Wayan on "Lethal Weapon". Minnie Driver on "Speechless". Ted Danson from CSI: Cyber last year now on "The Good Place". Kiefer Sutherland goes from bad guy working with to against the President in "24" to becoming the President in "Designated Survivor". And that's not even close to all the people I've seen, just the ones I can remember off-hand. The girl from "Madam Secretary" is on something I saw recently. The blue eyed guy who was a robot on a Fox show is on another. I mean, you can't watch a show without at least one person from another recent show. It's a little hard for me thinking of them all in their new roles and it disconnects me from many of the shows.
Well, tomorrow may be more of a day off than I expected after all. I was supposed to fly the SNJ again with the guy, but he doesn't need me to. So Kaylee will have youth group in the evening, and there's one photo flight that can hopefully happen, and other than that it should be quiet.
