When baseball teams went on strike, I pretty much decided they could keep their sport. It was boring to begin with, but if they were going to go on strike and hold people hostage, then they could just...stay out as far as I'm concerned. Right now the NFL is 24 hours away from "lockdown", aka strike. I really don't want to hear that, and I really dislike it. If football goes on strike, well, I'm going to have a tough time wanting to support them any more, and I like football. So we're watching the news, and the Democrats are still living over in Illinois, and I would just prefer they go ahead and stay there. Move to Illinois, and let us replace them with Democrats who will stay and vote and stop blackmailing the entire state by their strike. Put these together and what do you find? You find that I intensly dislike anyone using threatening bully blackmail hostage-holding techniques to get what they want. I can't stand unions, period. I'm with Regan. If they won't give anything in a negotiation, if they insist on getting all of what they want or they'll leave? Let them leave. All of them. Or short-cut their drama, fire them all and start over, which is what I prefer. Unions sucked the local car making industry dry, forcing wages for uneducated workers waaaay above the norm, can't fire anyone for anything, including complete incompetence, drunkeness at work, sitting idle all day because a part is broken on a machine but they can't fix it because "it's not my job"...until the company went under because of the inefficiency and exhorbant union wages. You know, it always floors me when someone who works in a union environment would rather the company go bankrupt, so that they lose their job altogether, than agree to not get that raise they think they all earned. Brilliant...
Anyway.
The first flight of the day went fine for our main trainer, but when the second flight went to go right after that, the engine quit during the mag check. That's not good. The plane was grounded, of course, so after lunch I went over to Glenndale to check out the runway and see if I could get our other trainer out of there. Two days ago there was standing water all over the runway, in multiple places. Today it was a little squishy, but it was fine, so I took KS out of there and over to Glenndale for my 2 p.m. flight. We had winds gusting up to 25 knots and a guy trying to learn to land, but it was good practice. When I got fuel afterwards, the line guy said "We were watching you guys take off and land--that was pretty entertaining! At least you didn't bend anything." I told him I'd get this landing stuff figured out one of these days. ;) He said he bet I had my hands and feet all over the controls today. I told him I keep my feet resting on the rudders, but I keep my hands off the yoke unless I have to save something. Nervous instructors with their hands all over the controls are...uncool. ;)
Steve had a flight too, right when Kaylee was getting out of school, so Chuck saved the day by going back to Glenndale, getting my Jeep, picking up Kaylee from school, and bringing both her and the car to Kokomo for me. :)
My Bonanza flight this afternoon was canceled again, this time due to a mag issue on that plane, too. In fact, that's two left mags that went down today.
We've enjoyed three days of sunshine in a row. Here comes a few more days of rain, a re-flooding of Glenndale, and some time off to finish up the billing, I'm guessing...
