I will keep this anonymous to protect the guilty, but I'm sure if they stumble upon this site they wouldn't mind me sharing the story anyway. It made me laugh this morning. The back story is that we had talked about flying this weekend, so I sent an email saying I was good to go if he was. This was the response:

I'd love to fly today, but...
My wife ordered a new couch. Being male, I didn't understand the significance of this event. Apparently you can't just move out the old couch and put the new one in its place. First, you have to scrub the carpets. OK, that makes sense. You still can't just put the new couch in the room because it's a slightly different color so, of course, you have to paint the room. Suggesting that I swing by Lowes and buy a gallon of the 1/2 off mis-mixed paint they keep hidden behind the counter is a great way to get "the look". Instead you have to spend 3 hours at Lowes lugging huge stacks of color samples from the paint department to the the lighting section so you can compare them under the right light. And you shouldn't restrict yourself to colors you might actually be interested in. That would be silly. You also need to look at every shade of purple and orange. When you get home you can't just paint right over 10 years of grime and mysterious sauce one of the kids must have flicked onto the wall. You have to scrub the walls down. And while you're at it, scrub the baseboards. And when you take down the drapes to start painting, you realize that you can't possibly just toss them in the washer and put them back up when the paint dries. Again, that's just silly. The couch is a slightly different shade so you're going to have to shop for new drapes. Somehow that couch also requires that the perfectly serviceable sliding glass door to the porch be replaced with French doors.
Of course this all makes sense to you, being female, but I have to be honest here - I'm struggling a bit with it. Our anniversary is tomorrow. I'm going to buy her a paint brush.
----------------------------------------------------------
He ought to submit that somewhere to publish. For the record, I did state that while I don't actually participate in massive home renovations in decorating, I DO know enough to suggest that buying a paint brush for an anniversary gift may make wondering what to get for next year a moot point. ;)
