Safe Landings

I keep forgetting to tell the story of how Steve shot Kaylee. You wouldn't think I'd miss that one, would you?? ;) When they initially set up the BB target, Steve attached it right to the fence. He watched his first shot hit the target, and then ping, it bounced off the hard wood behind it, and the next thing he heard was "OW!" It apparently ricocheted farther than anyone expected and hit her in the leg. So Steve set up the target differently, with a nice thick foam padded thing behind it, and sent Kaylee in to get some safety glasses. She comes back out wearing sunglasses, wrapped up in a blanket, and holding a pillow in front of her, with the comment "Don't shoot me again Dad, okay?" He convinced her it was safe to lose the padding, and they went on to have a great and safe time until I pulled in the driveway and saw them plinking BBs at the target while kicking back in lawn chairs, "Kentucky" style. ;)

I flew 1.4 with KL in KS practicing crosswind tols today, for the ole logbook.

What do you know-today is the First International Talk Like A Pilot Day. Sometime in the winter was Talk like a Pirate Day too. Who comes up with this stuff? And...why? Besides, pilots talk like pilots every day anyway and they can't seem to stop it, and non-pilots need to not talk like pilots because they sound just as silly as people sound when trying to talk like Pirates on Talk Like a Pirate Day. Let's just...not...shall we? ;)

Although having an excuse to say "unable at this time" or "any traffic in the area please advise" might come in handy out here in the real world too...

Today Kaylee's Grandma & Grandpa made it back from Florida for the summer! She was excited, and she informed me quite solemnly that she was NOT going to ballet today if they were coming home while she was there. I told her she WAS going to ballet and she could see them when she got home, and she let me know how wrong that was, that she always waits here for them, that she always gets to see them drive up, etc. She has been looking forward to it for days. They arrived just before we got back from ballet-so welcome back to your other home to "grandma & grandpa"! :)
