National Spank-Out Day; National Day of Prayer; National Day of Reason

Today is a busy day, with three "national" days. "Spank-out" Day is the day against 'physical violence against children via spanking'. Funny name, hot topic. Hot enough that on a world-wide website, I'm not going to post the opinion you all know I hold anyway.

The National Day of Prayer is designed for people across the country to pray for their local, state, national, and world leaders (among other things).

And the National Day of Reason is the counterpart to the National Day of Prayer, because naturally you can't pray and actually be a "reasoning" person at the same time. I got tired a long time ago of that kind of division between logic, reason, intelligence, and faith. Any one of those does not exist at the expense of any other. You can be logical and still have faith. You can have faith and still have intelligence. These are not mutually exclusive, no matter how many times and no matter how loudly some folks say so, no matter how many jokes they make. Their opinions require faith too, though faith in a different direction, and their answers also have holes that have to be filled with "we just don't know yet". So anyway, bottom line? I support a Day of Prayer. I also support Reason. Reason is good. More people need to have reason, need to be able to reason, need to be reasonABLE. So let's celebrate the day of Reason too. Not to be anti-prayer, but to be pro-reasoning. God created us to have amazing minds with unknown, incredible, mostly yet-untapped potential, and I'd say that's a pretty reasonable thing to appreciate and celebrate. :)
