Oh, I'm Full...

Outback Steakhouse is good for many things, and bad for many things. But because I'm a "glass half full" kind of person, I will stick with the good. The crab legs were delicious, and pre-cut so that we could easily get to the meat. They are what Kaylee had for dinner. In fact, that was all she ate-she even left the mac & cheese sitting untouched off to the side while she ate crab legs. Some of you may be confused-yes, I did say Outback Steakhouse. Not all of them have crab legs, but ours does, and I'm quite happy about that personally. ;) A delicious fillet, bread, baked potato and salad, and Cheesecake Olivia with raspberry sauce for dessert. Of course I was too full to eat anything but the steak and crab legs, but later, or tomorrow, I am going to have myself an enjoyable Round Two.

I was just sitting here comfortably in my living room, having decided not to return the movies tonight even though it would cost me an extra $3, because I didn't feel like going out after dark. And then Steve says, "You know, if you're going out anyway..." to which I rudely interrupted and said "I'm not..." and he finishes "I could call in Outback and you could pick it up on your way home." and I point at him and say "Oh, I am so going." as I put my shoes on. Mmmmm, that hit the spot.

Sunday afternoons are often spent picking up, cleaning, organizing, etc., and today was no different. We got quite a bit done and it felt like a rather productive day all in all.

I was watching "Con Air" on tv while I was getting ready to go to Outback, and I joked to Steve that the part where they sing "Sweet Home Alabama" was coming up sometime here and that part made me smile and that I'd probably have to miss it. In fact, it came on at the exact right time, and after it was over I hopped in my car, turned on the music, and the song that started playing right out of the gate was "Sweet Home Alabama". Deja vu!! :)

Kaylee's prayers are always amazing. I wish you could hear them, because when I try to remember them long enough to type them out, I never can say them the way she did originally. She folds her hands and closes her eyes and looks so sweet. Tonight she said something along the lines of "Thank you for giving me to wonderful parents who love me, want the best for me, and want me to grow up strong and healthy and kind. Thank you for our home that keeps us safe and warm, because some people don't have safe homes." And so on. She has always sounded years older than she is when she prays for some reason...

Speaking of older. Tonight she told us she was starved and wanted the pound and a half of crab legs we'd have to order if we were going to get her crab legs. I expected her to eat about a pound of them, as that's what she has usually eaten of them in the past. Unfortunately, she had eaten too much earlier, and when I arrived with the food, she wasn't hungry at all, and didn't eat hardly any. We weren't real thrilled with that because she had asked for that rather expensive meal and said she was indeed hungry and would eat it, and now she was not. So Steve told her how much that meal cost, and that he felt she should pay us $5.00 for the wasted food...that it was more than that, but that's what he felt was fair of her to pay, and that next time to please be honest if she wasn't hungry enough for something like that and we would work something else out. She said she understood, and she left the room, and came back in with $10.00 of her own money. Steve said "No, I appreciate that, but $5 is fine." She looked him in the eye and said "No Daddy, I want to pay you a full ten dollars." Steve argued with her on it for quite awhile; she was very insistent on the $10. Parental side note: This isn't the first time she's had us buy her meals at a restaurant that she then did not eat, and we've talked about being wasteful in the past. There's a difference between eating until you are full and then stopping, and ordering something that you then don't even hardly touch in the first place. Her meal tonight cost $30 and she wasn't going to eat hardly anything, so we wanted to make a point of the cost of food by having her pay something, but we didn't want to make it too punitive. She made a very mature decision on her own, and even though neither of us really wanted to take her money, we did take the $5 and hope that it has been a teaching experience too.

Today Kaylee also, out of the blue and prior to this, gave me one of her dollars from her allowance today, and told me that she wanted to give it to SMA. She said that she knows there are kids who can't get stuff they need and that she wants to help them. She gets $2 a week that she can spend on herself (the rest goes to tithe and savings), and she chose to give half of her money this week to SMA. That dollar will be deposited the next time I go, and whenever it goes back out, it will be sent with the love of a little girl. She's a pretty amazing kid...
