I woke up at O-dark a.m. with a really bad headache, which I tried to ignore and sleep past, which is always a mistake. I just can't stand getting out of a warm fuzzy bed when I'm 1/2 asleep, and would rather try to ignore pain than deal with it. Unfortunately around 6 a.m. I knew it was a lost cause, and I got up and took some pain meds and tried to go back to sleep-rather unsuccessfully. When the alarm went off, I considered asking Steve to take Kaylee to school, but he had been up later than I was, so I just got her breakfast and got her to school, a lot of which is actually a blur to me right now. When I made it back home, I crashed on the couch with a pillow over my throbbing head, and it took another 2 hours before I finally kicked the headache, after which I still felt a little wobbly. I took my time getting ready, then worked on some stuff for the Kokomo Airport, and met the guys (and Judy!) at Grindstone Charley's for lunch.
After lunch it was errands time. I ran out to Kokomo to drop off brochures, went to McDonald's to return Kaylee's movie, went to Glenndale to grab a case of Vivonex to ship off, then headed to pick up Kaylee at school. From there I took her to a meeting with Mrs. R. who had some paperwork for me to sign to make my position on the School Board official. We discussed some upcoming issues like scholarships and how we would determine the criteria used in deciding how to disperse the scholarship funds, tuition costs, website information, school colors and how they'd fit in with local public school colors, yadda yadda. I was there until after 5 pm, so I had to race Kaylee home and work on her homework and her "Book in a Bag" project, then throw on her Awanas clothes and drive her over there.
It was Parent's Night at Awanas tonight, so Steve met me over there. The parents were given a sheet of six verses to memorize, and for each verse they memorized, the child got extra points for their team. Now that was funny. Kaylee was memorizing her sections, and Steve and I were memorizing our verses. The room was chaos with everybody trying to say their verses to the leaders, so the leaders said we grown-ups could say the verses to each other on the honor system. Afterwards it was "game time", and the adults ran around the Awanas circle with the kids. There was one relay race where there were four racers-two were dads, two were little kids. One little kid got to the center of the circle at the same time as one of the dads, and the dad swooped the pin out from under the kid. So the kid goes to grab the beanbag (second place), and the other dad who came in AFTER the others grabbed the bag out from under him. The boy was a little upset about getting there in first place and walking away with nothing, and frankly I didn't think it was great sportsmanship on the part of the dads. There's competitive, and then there's...too competitive. Oh well, such is life.
At this point, Steve stayed for the last part of the night, and I headed out to meet some ladies for a birthday celebration of one of the moms I go out with a few times a year. We call it Girl's Night Out. It was at Hacienda tonight, and I was an hour late so I could be there for Kaylee's thing, but even at an hour in, I wasn't too late to eat and chat. I got home pretty late, and am trying to do a little catch-up before tomorrow starts without me. :)
Oh, yesterday I spoke to a reporter from the local paper about the flight operations at Kokomo, and today the article came out in the paper. You can click on these photos to blow them up and hopefully be able to read them. If not, here's a link to the online version which is basically the same, but without the photo I think. The paper did a pretty good job!I guess on that note, I need to finish up a few things before bed.
Tomorrow shouldn't be quite this busy, but you never can tell. :)
