Weekend Update

I kept trying to figure out what felt familiar about this date, but it was nobody's birthday that I could think of. And then it occurred to me...the Glenndale accident. Ah.

Kaylee is starting to feel better, so that's good. She had a friend over yesterday who wasn't worried about catching anything from her. Kaylee came over to our house after that but I still care, ergo I wouldn't let her touch me. She was briefly hurt or offended when she tried to grab my hand and I pulled back and wouldn't do it, but she's not a little kid any more, and I. Cannot. Go. Down. Sick. For. Two. Weeks. I mean, if you get sick you do, but I sure don't need to not try to not get sick. I have no backup pilot, and missing flights affects way more than just me. So I'm doing my best to leave the germs over there.

This weekend's weather has been stupid. It was calling for bad storms all of yesterday and today. Yesterday I canceled going to Ohio because of it, and then nothing really happened in our area anyway. It was IFR in the morning, but after that burned off we could have made it. Then this morning, it was supposed to be fine last night. And then I wake up to IFR, and after that calling for even 100% storms and rain most of the afternoon.  We again wait out at the airport, and I don't think the storms are going to come down to us, but I again decide not to go to Columbus, and you know what hit us? Nothing until like 4 pm we got some light rain. It sure would be nice if the weather people would get even CLOSE to the reality.

But instead, yesterday Morgan and I took BOB up. She's been fighting her landings a little bit, so did 7 of those trying to fine-tune them. Then I did one and it kind of helped with the sight picture, but then it started raining on us and we had to stay down and put the T-6 and everything else sitting out, away, so it didn't get too soaked.  So we took our 172 up during the light rain, and burned 2.0 hours off on the new cylinders/engine. Got done from that, and took BOB back up and she did 3 landings that were all really nice. She got her mojo back. She needs that because she's taking a plane full of people down to Louisville in a couple weekends. I will have to take the Cirrus down after I drop off a couple in S. Carolina, so it'll be just her in charge in there with the crew on board.

Today after I canceled, we decided to put more time on the 172. So we did 2.5 on one sortie, landed and got lunch and fuel, then did another sortie for 2.3. So all in all we've gotten 6.8 out of the 10 break-in hours it needs before we can put it back online for students and instructors, so we feel like we were helpful and productive even if we did zero T-6ing.

Short and sweet, not much else going on today. Steve says he's coming with me tomorrow on my trip to Iowa to pick up a guy. It should be IFR, so he'll get a little IFR trip in the Cirrus tomorrow to Iowa, so I think he'll like that, if he's not too busy to really go. And then when I get back, if the weather is good enough, I'm supposed to do a Citabria checkout with a guy who already has 150 hours in a T-6. Somehow I don't think a Citabria checkout will be that exciting with such a guy, unless he is a terrible T-6 pilot I guess. ;)
