Errand Day

It was super hot today, this whole week in fact, but fortunately yesterday I had air conditioning in the plane and today I was mostly indoors and doing fine. When I got up, I left Steve working at home today while I went to 20/20 Vision to get a new pair of glasses ordered since mine got scratched up in the bottom of the Cub. Drove right past J Edwards Chocolate place and didn't stop in, which is unusual for me. Maybe it helped that it was like 9:30 am. ;) Got my car washed, gassed up my car, got the mail, and then went to the lab. I had just finished checking in with the Kiosk when this older lady came walking out with a walker, and she couldn't get the door open to leave. So of course I opened the door and held it for her, and then went to the outside door and held that for her too until she could get out. She said she had 3 back surgeries and could barely walk, let alone push on hard doors, and said thank you. No problem, of course, and I go inside where the nurse has come out to the waiting room. I go to sit down and she says "Are you Laura?" I said yes--I was 50 minutes early for my lab drawing appointment but I didn't want to go home and come back, so I checked in and hoped I could just get in early. She said "Now that you're done being a hero, you can come on back!" I laughed but she was serious. She thanked me *three times* for holding the door for the lady. Called me a hero twice. What exactly kind of world do we live in where someone is that stunned and impressed that a person would hold the doors open for a crippled old woman just trying to get to her car?? Do we really not all do that anyway? Seriously? Wow.

Anyway. Got my blood drawn, went in a cup, and I was out of there in like 5 minutes. Just doing a checkup on how my numbers are still looking, as it's been almost a year since my last bloodwork, I've lost some weight and I'm curious on how it all adds up.

I downloaded the Chick-Fil-A app at home and ordered lunch for the two of us, then drove out to pick it up. That went fast and easy, first time I've tried that one. The line is always fairly long but it moves fast, especially if you pre-order.

Steve ended up going out to the airport for a flight, and I worked on washing some of Kaylee's stuff. When her bedroom ceiling fell, a fine black dust settled over her clothes, her bedding, a couple stuffed animals she had, all sorts of stuff. She's been doing a ton of loads of laundry, but that black stuff does not come out. She ended up having to buy new bedding. I was going to try to wash the comforter but just touching it put black stuff all over my hands that I couldn't hardly get off my hands and it didn't come out of the rest of her bedding, so... She asked me to work on her stuffed animals, so I did. It took me several hours but I finally got two out of the three in pretty good shape, and a white shirt she couldn't get clean. Whatever that dust is, it's bad news. It's like charcoal or something? We are going to have to replace the carpeting in the bedroom too because it would *not* clean up. The new stuff is sitting on her deck rolled up and waiting. I'm just kind of concerned about what all that did to her lungs. Or is doing to her lungs.  Anyway, I got done what I could to help her out. Her house is a mess, because everything is out of her two bedrooms stacked up, she has nowhere to put all her clothes, and it's been that way for awhile now. She'll be so much better once we get the rooms done and can put her stuff back together and organized. Nobody really enjoys living in chaos.

After I got that done, I did my exercises--some for my knee, some weights for my arms. Actually cooked some dinner to have ready for when Steve got home, and all in all had a nice productive day.

Still no word on anything else.
