I couldn't hardly go VFR from Frankfort to Delphi (six minutes) because of the smoke. It's really yucky.
So I was up at 5:15 am, and very draggy and tired today because of it, until now at 10 pm when I'm wide awake and need to finish packing and go to bed so I can get up at 5 am tomorrow too.
It was a six-leg run today. I had to get to Frankfort early because I needed gas in the Cirrus, so I flew it over to Delphi, topped it off, and then they arrived late and we headed to Champaign, Illinois where I dropped off Stephen, and Logan and big guy in the back and I went on to Kansas City, KS. They were there for several hours. I tried to nap but only got about 20 minutes in, which is better than nothing, and then went to brunch at a place called "First Watch". I'd had so many eggs lately I went with a banana french toast, which I shouldn't have, but I liked it, so maybe I should have. The guys got back and we got out to the plane...and there was something hanging down from under the cowl by the nosewheel. Looked like a hose. I get on the 100 degree hot ground on my knees because that's a great idea, but I needed to look at it, and on closer inspection it looks like foam, not a hose with liquid in it. But still, I can't just fly around with this thing hanging out of it. But what IS it? Is it important? I don't even know who to text or call. Then I decide to give Indy Exec's maintenance guys a call, and they actually help me out right there. It's just a seal, it's no big deal, I am clear to rip it the rest of the way off and fly anyway, and I can replace it at the next 100 hour. Whew. So glad they answered. So now that we're all sweatier than we were before, we hop in the Cirrus, turn on the air conditioning, fly back to Illinois and pick up Stephen, I drop them off at Delphi and get gas for the 3rd time today, so that I'll have it for tomorrow, and then I go back to Frankfort, put it away, and drive home.
At this point it's like 7 pm. Kaylee wants me to get her some waffles, I haven't packed for Oshkosh, I have a load of laundry to do first, I need to do receipts and logbook and time sheet and then plan tomorrow's trip to Kentucky and SE Indiana, with storms coming, and then maybe plan the trip to Oshkosh when we get back from this. Hopefully plan it. Hopefully it's VFR enough I can get in without having to get a time slot. I dunno. We'll see. There's a lot up in the air so to speak.
It's now 10:10 pm, I'm waiting on waffles to be delivered, I think I'm packed for the most part, and just need to remember things like my pillow tomorrow morning--things I'm going to need tonight that I need to not forget at 5 am tomorrow. Yikes.
Oshkosh got a tornado warning for tonight, but I don't see zip on radar, so I think they were hallucinating up there. Which is good.
Smoke haze at sunrise
I can see me sitting on the ground in the wheel pant too. lol
Kansas City
Now pardon my French on a couple of these:
True, on my feed anyway.
Sort of made me laugh
A true one
And this is how I feel if something happens in aviation, too. Replace "hiking" with Flying, replace "rock" with "misjudged something", lost the argument with gravity still works, and the last word probably would be that. So... lol
