The guys were late today to start working on the kitchen because they had to go to Menards first, which apparently they couldn't do ahead of time to be prepared for today. But they got all the closets done, they got the trim up on everything, they got the red spot painted white on the ceiling, and part of the caulking done around the counters. Only a couple of small things left to do, which I HOPE they can finish tomorrow, and we can put the doors back on the closets and start actually putting our kitchen and dining room back together. Yay! I like how it's looking, and I'll have an "after" picture soon.
I was sitting on my couch updating my Med Express app with the appropriate names and addresses of doctors, wondering what I was going to do the rest of the day, when Morgan texted and asked if I wanted to go apartment hunting with her. She's getting a place down in Noblesville with her friend Shaye, and was going to be gone when Shaye went to look at the place they're most interested in, so I said sure, be glad to. It was right at lunch time, so I told her to meet me at lunch at Grindestone Charley's, and we'd leave from there to go look at it.
Then *everybody* decided to go to lunch, so there would be 9 of us. Morgan was going to be late, and we were at a long rectangular table, and I know her, so I sat on the 2nd seat in and left the end seat open, and put my phone there. Every person that came in tried to sit next to me except for Ty, and each time I'd point at it and say "Morgan". I also texted her to warn her there were 9 of us and that I saved a seat on the end for her. But see, it was the only appropriate seating. If Nathan or Kevin had sat on the end next to me, then they'd be separated from their other 3 people who came with them. The four of them sat on the other end of the table together and played a trivia game on their cellphones throughout lunch. So it was only fitting they all sit together, right? Morgan would have been horrified to walk into the room and see 9 of us there with one seat open on the other end by somebody she didn't even know that well. Sometimes you gotta think of these things in advance to make someone comfortable. Kaylee would be the same way. So would I, walking into a surprise large group with awkward seating thoughts.
I hopped in her VW Bug and we drove to Noblesville, stopped at a coffee shop we found by accident when we were down there doing a random drug screen test, because they have excellent smooth coffee. Church based place called LC Coffeehouse. Inside they have baked goods, a gluten free set of baked stuff (I sent a photo to Kaylee), and a TV screen that talks about the various ministries they support. I saw two; one was to help victims of sex slavery/pedaling, and the other was to help people get training and real world jobs. But mostly, they have a fantastic coconut cold brew, and we look forward to Spring getting back here so they'll bring it back. ;)
The apartment hunting was interesting. Apartments down there now are about $1700/month. It'll be two girls living together, so with some utilities and such about $900/person. She had tried to get a tour online but it wouldn't allow it with less than 48 hour notice, so we walked into the leasing office and she made me ask and I asked if we could take a look at the apartments, and the lady there was like 'Yeah, sure!' and took us on a tour right then. I was like...you never know if you don't ask, right?! :) They were nice. We went to four different apartment complexes, and the different vibes of each were kind of amazing, and clear. All four would be doable, but they went in order from "I love this" to "Only if there is absolutely no other option because I don't like it at all". So getting eyes on them really helped with the decision making process, and now she and Shaye just have to agree.
We also stopped at two Meijer stores, because her mom is on a hunt for wedding stuff for her brother. We've already hit 6 Hobby Lobbys for one thing, and today we were looking for specific candles and trays. The first Meijer we went to was a grocery store only, the only one I've ever seen like that, and the second one was jackpot on 8 candles but no trays. So we accomplished a few things for her mom while accomplishing coffee runs and apartment stalking too. Not a bad way to spend a rainy afternoon. :)
Steve and I ordered in Half Moon tonight for dinner, doing some work, and I don't have anything on tap for tomorrow except my zoom meeting with the shrink and hopefully the guys finishing up our kitchen/dining room. And watching it drizzle all day again...
