Kaylee’s first real day at her office in Carmel went amazingly. They had had her office set up with a real plant in the corner, and a sign with a cat on it welcoming her, and all sorts of stuff. They told her they were so happy and excited to have her there with them. That afternoon they shut down the office and took everyone bowling, and she sent me a picture of all of them together smiling at the bowling alley. She is off and running with such a positive experience her. I’m really happy and excited for her. She got to shadow her boss on some calls, and one of them was really a lot, and when she hung up, her boss said “Well, we don’t usually get that level here”. Kaylee said “That’s what we got at the community mental health place fairly often”, and her boss said “not here, that’s unusual here” and Kaylee thought “Whew, good!” lol So far everything about this place has been just a full-on answer to prayer for her. I know, and she knows, nothing is perfect, and there’s always a problem or problem people or problem scenarios, but…so far, she couldn’t ask to start off on a better foot.
So Tuesday night I slept upstairs at Frankfort airport, used my phone app for white noise so I could sleep, and as an alarm to wake me up at 6:20. I woke up earlier than that on my own anyway, and it felt So Weird getting ready and running to the shower in pajamas at the place I work. They have cameras all over up there, but not in the bathroom or guest room, just in the hallways, so I made sure I was halfway presentable before even going down the hallway to the bathroom. lol I got showered, dressed, took my packed bag back out to my car (thank heavens I packed that bag), made my bed, took off the pillow case I used, and texted them that I’d used the towel in their bathroom. It worked. It was weird and awkward feeling, but it worked, and it saved me two hours of lost sleep time on a day where I was already tired. So I’m grateful to have had the option of better than a chair and a sink to try to freshen up in, you know?
Morgan met me there at 7:15, and Nick and Clay were there by 7:30. The plane was outside, and the windows were completely covered in the same fog I’d landed in, plus condensation. When I started the plane up, we couldn’t see out at all, and with the sun on it I was blind. I’d wiped down the inside, but it didn’t help. I couldn’t reach the outside from the outside without a ladder. So I tried turning on the windshield heat de-ice, but it didn’t work at low power, so I brought the power up a lot, kicked it on, and it blew away the water, and I could see, and I laughed. Ha HA! And away we went.
I did the first leg, into Temple. Again there was weather, storms right along the flight path close to our destination. So annoying. I had to go pretty far out of the way again, but we made it. Morgan and I got the crew car and went into town for brunch. They suggested a smokehouse, but I didn’t want BBQ even though I’m in Texas, I wanted breakfast. So I found a place that had good bacon and eggs and went there.
We mostly hung out at the FBO, and Morgan did the flight home. She had more weather to go around. We landed back at Frankfort after hours, but I’d texted them ahead of time to see if they could top me off for the next day’s 7 am departure, which they did. I land, we let everyone off, they top me off and put it away, and I drive home. Stopped at the Milky Way for tangerine soft serve and some fried mushrooms with their excellent ranch dipping sauce for dinner, and went home.
I wasn’t able to stay up very late. A 7 am departure the next day meant I needed to get up at 4:45-5 am. So I tried to go to bed at 9:30. Steve had stuff to tell me until about 10, but then I finally made it to bed. And out.
