C-45 and News

I flew with a Fed Ex pilot today, Steve G., and did his BOB checkout. The weather was perfect, and we got it all done in about 2.5 hours. Steep turns, slow flight, rudder demo, power off and on stalls and recovery, clean and dirty, engine outs simulation, engine out to a full shut down and feather, and restart, takeoffs and landings, no flap landing, engine out to a landing, go-arounds, short field, direct crosswind, all the things.  He did pretty well--he could use a little more time to get smoother in the airplane and remember everything, but he was safe and good to go. I signed him off, did the paperwork online and submitted it, he topped off the plane and we got everything put away in time for Steve and I to drive down to Sheridan and eat with the pilot group. Pizza. With extra crispy pepperoni on top. Good stuff. We didn't wear our flight suits, either. He forgot. I didn't. ;) While we were up flying, my phone was blowing up. I ended up with FIFTY texts (I counted!) that came through a text chain about an upcoming rides event on Saturday, with people being obstructive, not helpful, and then claiming "safety" issues when it wasn't, and I got so annoyed that I sent a text through when I got home, blasted a couple of people, and the whole thing went quiet and nobody has said anything else since. Not a word on there. I don't usually put things like that in writing towards a group of people, so I know the people who read it backed up and said "Whoa" afterwards. :D Fine with me. They deserved it. Steve liked it. I got three separate texts that basically said "Thank you" later. lol

Dad news. He originally was doing better and they were going to transfer him to a rehab facility for awhile to regain strength and independence. Then he back-tracked. He is now supposed to be transferred to a hospital in St. Louis, getting his cancer team in St Louis involved as well I guess. The doctor told them that his condition is not good. Aunt Christie is going to come to their house to watch their dogs so Gayle can go to St Louis with him. He is also incoherent a lot, speaking nonsense, or sleeping, so they ordered an MRI of his brain to see if they can see why. Then his latest urinalysis showed a fungal infection which they think may be what's causing confusion and hallucinations, and he's on an IV anti-fungal. He only had a couple of lucid moments the whole day. Mostly he sleeps and mumbles. They are waiting for a bed to open up in St Louis so they can get him over there.

And ending on the good Kaylee news. She got a call today from the head of the program, who said that  the two directors (one director of nutrition, the other director of therapists) that she just did the zoom interview with, told her (head of the program) that they thought she'd (Kaylee) be a great fit, so the head asked Kaylee if she'd be interested in moving forward with the process. Kaylee said "yes" really fast, so the next step is to meet with the lady who would be her direct supervisor. They were trying to set up a time next week, and Kaylee said she was going down there on Wednesday anyway for one of their events, and that if the supervisor would be available, she'd be happy to meet then. She was quite pleased with herself, that she'd taken the time off of work and arranged to be at an event where they were going to be, already, and that it all worked out well. So next Wednesday she meets with the supervisor, and if there aren't any big issues with that meeting, they will formally extend an offer of employment to her, and then she'll sit down with her current job and boss and let them know she's leaving. She wants to give them a month to transition all her clients and such, and she doesn't want to burn any bridges, and so far everything she's doing is the right way. It's exciting for her! We're all excited for her. :)

One shut down engine, fully stopped in the air. Ohhhhh Nooooo!

Just a partial shot down the table of some of the folks at dinner. There were about 11-12.
