Omaha

Again, working backwards, I am home and spent most of today resting, and all is well.

Things did not go according to plan. My second airline flight into Indy did indeed land on time at almost midnight. I had pre-arranged with Uber to have a driver to take me to Frankfort Airport to pick up my car, for $62. I let them know I’m there, and I get outside, and my driver cancels on me. Another driver picks it up and says he’ll be there in 4 minutes. 45 minutes later he’s still not there and I have messaged him twice to ask what was going on. I try to cancel him so I can try to order another and they’re going to charge me a cancellation fee. That’s outrageous, so I don’t cancel it, I leave it live and I order up a Lyft ride. That one is $110 but it’s already parked right there at the airport and he’s ready to go. I take it. I don’t get to Frankfort until 1:30 am. His GPS sent him some weird back way and we ended up driving on the runway to get to the FBO which was entertaining.

I got to my car at 1:30, which means I pulled in to the house around 2:15 am. I did NOT get pulled over this time at least. I fell asleep around 2:45 am, and then I was back awake at 6 for a busy day. Not quite my preferred amount of sleep. I was wheels up in the Cheyenne by 8:30 am, and headed back to White Plains, NY. Busy airspace, a little weather, nothing serious, particularly because I could fly over the top of it all. Cheyenne for the win there.

When I got there, I transferred Andy’s suitcase from the back of the Conquest to the Cheyenne. He had a garment bag too, but I couldn’t find that. Finally I had to text him and ask if he had it, and fortunately he did. I was so concerned someone had stolen it out of there though I couldn’t figure out why.

When he arrived, he said “How did the Cheyenne get here?” and I realized that last he knew the day before I was spending the night in NY. I laughed and said “you’re going to enjoy this” and I told him I’d airlined home last night and brought the plane out this morning. He was impressed. Thank you. ;)

We left from there straight to Omaha, NE at the big airport. Had to go to 38,000’ to top the storms, but did, shot an ILS to shoot in, and had expensive fuel to top off with, and then headed back for home. On top of all the storms on the way home, too, until it was time to descend into Kokomo, where there was a lot of rain and buildups and stuff too.

I got home and tried to nap but was too wired to do it. Finally went to sleep, woke up this morning around 8:30, did laundry, caught up on paperwork, did a lot of talking with people, and then took Kaylee’s cat to the vet for her. Molly had some bloody stool a couple of times and pus once, so they agreed to see her but Kaylee had to work and I had the day off, so I took her in. The vet was tired at the end of a long Friday but still had to laugh and say “There was a lot of gnarly stuff in her anal gland”. Well, that’s lovely. LOL They gave her antibiotics and cleaned it out. Poor Molly was not happy with any of this and will probably never speak to me again, but at least she’s hopefully feeling better.

Oh, and I got hit on, and it was sort of sweet. So I’m outside of the Indy airport at 12:30 am and my Uber is ditching me, and another guy who was standing outside looks over at me and says “You’re beautiful”, only not in a creepy way. Most of us have radar for creepy. I said thank you, and he asked me out. I told him I was old and married, and he said “you’re about my age, I’d guess, 41 or so, right?” I said 53, and he said “WOW” which was super funny. Then he laughed and said “you’re obviously not old, just older than me.” Then he said “so you’re married?” And I said yes, and I liked him and was going to stick with him. We joked about a couple things, then his Uber got there. It’s been awhile since a stranger hit on me, that wasn’t creepy or lecherous, and it was kind of nice, actually.

Tomorrow I go back to pick up Andy in Omaha, only they are doing a big event there, so Omaha is charging $800 just to land there. So we are going into the next nearest airport that doesn’t have fees. Guess where that is? Council Bluffs, Iowa’s airport. It’s only 15 minutes from where he’s staying. Cheap fuel, no fees. So I’m going to get to see Stephanie for a couple of hours tomorrow. I’m weirdly nervous on top of excited, because we don’t see each other in person like ever, just a couple times in decades. I’m excited, too…

Chemtrails above

It was frickin' COLD up there. I'm just glad nothing broke while I was at 38,000' and -62F

Kokomo showers and in the distance a rainbow

Closer up rainbow. :) I love rainbows
