Got up at 7, we were out of the house by 8, I was in the oral surgeon's office by 8:45, and I was home by...10 I think? I was kinda out of it, but I know we were home before 11.
I have been putting an ice pack on my jaw for 20 min at a time, several times a day, with a paper towel over it to protect the skin. They told me to take Tylenol, Advil or Motrin to help with swelling and inflammation. I've so far taken 2 Motrin, will take another one in about 45 min here. They said no straws, no brushing teeth, no rinsing or spitting for 24 hrs, or it'll mess with the area. No hard food (duh). I can do all that.
They gave me a script for more antibiotics, which I will take since the thing was still infected and now it's an open wound. I've ordered more Greek yogurt to have at least one a day, as that kept my digestion from giving me fits the whole time I was on strong IV and oral antibiotics in the last couple weeks.
They also gave me a script for Oxy for pain. I may pick it up because a person never knows when they may need something like that down the road, though I'll probably end up tossing it years down the line when it's been expired for awhile like I did other things like it, but no, I'm not going to take it, even though they said I could take it on top of Motrin with no extra issues. For one thing, I don't need it. So far the pain is fine as is, doable with a Motrin. For another, I detest how opioids make me feel. Super dry mouth, half the time it gives me a bad headache, and I really, really hate the feeling of disconnect, balloon head, and lack of control. I've probably said it before, but of all the things I could end up dealing with, opioid addiction would be most highly unlikely, since I can't stand it. lol
The procedure this morning, the doctor Poteet was efficient, knowledgeable, kind. We talked about replacing the hole with an implant, and he said my bone structure was great and I would be an excellent candidate for that. I have to first let the hole heal for 3 months, and then they will call me back in and discuss it more. He said "We will not lose track of you. We will reach out to you in 3 months to discuss this further." More money? I believe him. ;)
I had filled out all the paperwork ahead of time online, so I was checked in immediately. They found another spot for IV #8, even though I was dehydrated because I'd seen one line that said you must fast for at least 8 hours ahead of time and I couldn't find if that meant food AND liquid, or just food, so to be safe I didn't eat or drink anything. Come to find out I could've had the water, but say-la-vee or however you spell that.
We discussed a few things while I had the IV in and was sitting in the chair. He said he was going to put in the good stuff now. I remember waiting awhile, sighing, looking at the ceiling, looking at the light over my head, and then thinking "oh, there it is". Next thing I remember, the nurse is shaking me and walking me out to Steve who walks me out to my car. I have gauze in my mouth and can't talk well, and I feel weird, but not bad. Steve gets me home, I sit on the couch, and at some point I passed out and took a big ole nap.
I got a fresh fruit smoothie bowl with an acai puree base for dinner, had yogurt for late breakfast and Campbell's chicken noodle soup minus the chicken chunks for lunch. So far so good I think.
Also, I'm down 9 pounds from my highest after the hospital with all that fluid retention, and 5 pounds down from what I actually weighed before I left my house to go to Florida that day. Would be nice to springboard off of that successfully, and hopefully without getting too weird about food.
Guess that's about it. I've got an ice pack to put back on for awhile, a Motrin to take, a load of laundry to get out of the dryer, and then a little more resting and recuperating before I head out on Wednesday afternoon to airline flight to Colorado. For now, at least the dead, infected, bad tooth is out of here. Let the healing really begin.
