The Rest of the Week

The rest of the week was too hopping for me to sit down and write much about it.

Thursday I flew out to Ankeny, Iowa. Nick told me he wanted to go to "Des Moines", and pronounced the "s"s in both words, and I didn't say anything the first two times but finally I filled him in that it's "Duh Moin" or they'd make fun of him. He said "DEE Moine" once and I'm like...no.  Duh MOIN. I think we got it finally. While I was there, a guy named Dave K is the airport manager there and we're Facebook friends. I saw him but I didn't want to get trapped into talking a lot, so I went into town, ate, came back, but there was nowhere to hang out now. The pilot lounge was full, the conference room was being used by students/instructors, so I had to go downstairs. There were two guys at the concessions area, and two guys at the front desk room area too, so I just sat down there in a sunbeam with them. Dave walked past me a few times and I was arguing with myself on whether to introduce myself or let it go. I'd go back and forth on what I decided. Then one time he walked past me, stopped, turned, looked at me, pointed his finger at me, and I stood up and said "Yeah" and we laughed. I had to awkwardly talk for awhile but we were getting ready to leave so that helped. ;)  Ankeny looks pretty large now, and has a lot of newer fancier restaurants and stuff. I recognized nothing, though I wouldn't expect to if I didn't recognize most of Lincoln, where I was 17 when I lived there for a year.

The very next day (Friday) I took the Conquest out to Gunnison, CO to pick up Ethan. We stopped in Enid, Oklahoma and picked up a MBros guy who needed a ride back too. Made it home that evening. The winds were supposed to be up to 45 knots, and we were going to drop everyone off at Delphi, which was a direct crosswind. Then the forecast dropped it to the 30s, so I said I'd do that. When we got there it was like 20. A little bumpy but nothing that frightful. Dropped them off, flew back to Frankfort by myself, and there was a beautiful sunset that I had to stop and take some photos of.

Then Saturday was taking Nick and his family down to Orlando in the Conquest. Him, his wife and four kids into Kissimmee. I filed the night before to avoid an EDCT, went high to burn less gas, and it wasn't that bad of a day. No trouble getting in or out, and the weather was still good, so that all helped. Odyssey Aviation, where we parked, is right next to Stallion 51's hangar, so I looked over at where I wasn't doing P-51 training. :p Came home by myself, because Steve was working with a guy on selling our old cards, and Morgan had a student who needed checkride prep and not to be canceled on his lesson. So little ole me scooted my seat back, pulled out a James Patterson book, turned up some music, and had a 3 hour flight home watching the sun get lower and relaxing while flying. After I got out of Florida, of course. It's not relaxing getting in or out, but after that...

I was pretty wiped out after all that. I'd had pretty big trips 7 days in a row. So Sunday I spent not doing much of anything. Slept in, caught up on some email stuff, prepped a bit for the upcoming week, but mostly vegged out and watched TV.  ;)

Tonight is a school board meeting, Kaylee's first since being approved to be on the board as well. I tried to get out but now I'll need to stay for a bit longer...

Yesterday I took photos of the red Jeep, the 1995, and Steve is going to sell it. For now, the Buick is being sold first. We drove it over to a guy's house, he lives right on a main drag, and says he can sell cars pretty easily right there. So I'd taken photos of it a long time ago, we passed those on to him (he said the photos I took of our cars were some of the best he'd seen, so that was lovely), and we dropped it off there, and he's going to take care of selling it, and not even for much money. Mostly he wants to sell us our next new car, which he knows is coming, for Steve, and will be coming faster if we sell the Buick, the red Jeep, the beige Jeep, and the Corvette. And possibly the maroon Jeep Steve is currently driving too. It's actually possibly going to happen.

And now I think I've caught up. I'll probably have a trip Wednesday to something Falls, Iowa, and then Thursday/Friday/Saturday gets tricky with trips to Colorado and Florida stacked up, trying to see if I use the Cheyenne or the Conquest...

I have great sunset photos but I guess I didn't download them yet. Here they are.

How NOT to tell your line guy that you'll be late and to please leave space in the hangar for you to put the plane away yourself. Wrong on so many levels.
