Had kind of a fun day. Got to sleep in, go to lunch with friends, pick up mail that hasn't been picked up for too long, dropped off some soup for Kaylee who was home not feeling well today, then went out to the airport to fly the Champ.
Only problem was that on the way out there I pull up the schedule and the Champ is down for annual. So I'm left with the yellow Citabria. The winds were up to about 20 knots and I wanted to play with crosswinds, and that airplane doesn't do as well for who knows what reason. This Citabria is less responsive and just sloppier than most of them I fly, and it seems to not be capable of as strong of winds as even the lighter-weight Champ. It's kinda odd. So I keep messing with it to see if it's me or it, and it did the 17, but I was pretty much out of aileron, and the Champ I've done 27 knots direct without running out. So... shrug. But anyway, went up, and started with the runway right into the wind. Greased on the first two landings, which felt pretty nice, so I went to the crosswind runway. That wasn't so greasy. ;) I had to do 3 or 4 before I settled in and got some nice ones. When I felt comfortable that I was on centerline, smooth landings, etc., I texted Steve and asked if he wanted to go flying. He'd like to get current again in tailwheel stuff, but he said he needed to work. So I texted Morgan and asked if she wanted to go, which was a "yep".
She did the same thing-started off on the runway into the wind, which went great, so moved over to the crosswind runway, which wasn't quite so greasy again. But see, now she knows I write in here most days and that some day I may read her what I wrote, so now I question what I'd have written if I didn't know that vs if I do! She wasn't super thrilled with those landings, okay, was pretty mad about them, especially the one that visited both sides of the runway that I got ready to grab but didn't have to, but she eventually dialed them in too. :) We did a ton of landings, topped off the airplane, did three more, then put it away for the day. It felt really nice to go flying for fun in the daytime, sunshine, in my T-SHIRT even, when it was about 60 degrees. I kinda needed that.
Then the fun stops and I went to a school board meeting for 2 hours. There's one guy on the board, there's always one, who is on a slower record speed than everyone else. We all move on and he's like "Wait, back up". He's got issues or questions with EVERY item that is addressed, and usually it's because he doesn't understand what is happening. But he always says "I understand that" when people respond to him. He makes me want to poke his eye out with my pen after about the first 15 minutes. Every time he opens his mouth, the other 11 of us sigh, close our eyes, put our heads in our hands. I'm like...John, my dude, EVERYTHING doesn't have to be this HARD, man. We get through so much faster when he's not there.
But the rest of the day was fun. Went from there to get a malt and a tenderloin from Cone Palace with a line around the building and to the street that nonetheless moves quickly, and home to watch NCIS with Steve.
The series of photos of Morgan's Face. One of her landings, they hadn't been going great, so I took this Be Real on short final and she was saying "Wait, don't take the picture yet!" and her face, when I saw the photo afterwards, I burst out laughing, out loud, for several minutes straight.
