It took him all day, but Steve got the drain cleaned out from my celery mess. It took him 20' of the 25' snake he had down our sink pipes to reach and clear it out. You know that scene in "League of Their Own" where Tom Hanks (coach) had screamed at one of the women baseball players for something and she was crying and people told him he didn't need to be mean and he was yelling that there's no crying in baseball and got ejected from the game, then she did the same mistake again costing them runs, but this time he addressed her, shaking, in a calm, strained voice, and said she did the same thing and to please work on that? Steve did better than that. There was no shaking and clenched teeth. But the "please don't do that again" thing was definitely there. ;) Oh, here it is. Starting about 30 seconds in. That's what I felt he probably felt. lol I won't be putting anything leafy down there again, and I shall be more careful about whatever it is I DO put down there.
Steve also got our toilet put back together and attached in our bathroom, and it's seemingly good as new.
I took Kaylee's tree down next door off the deck while Steve was working on these other things. Got the ornaments and decorations and lights off of everything, and almost all put away. He had to help with taping up the tree box and putting them back in the garage. Christmas is now gone from the two houses, as I suppose is appropriate in mid-January. It's nice to have it up, and it's nice to have it back to normal, it's just not nice PUTTING it up, or putting it away. I wish I could hire someone to come in and make everything festive around here after Thanksgiving and leave it up until like the 2nd week in Jan and then come back and take it down. I know some rich people do that, but we're back to things rich people get to do that the rest of us don't. :D It's okay, some people enjoy the decorating. Maybe some day I'll get to the point I enjoy it. I mean, it hasn't happened by 53, but who knows. ;)
We were putting stuff away when in drove a sewer van. He was back! We've spent this time with a hole in our yard, and a hole in our pipe which was exposed to the air, where you could flush and see water or TP going by in the hole. Steve put a wooden board over the top of it after a couple days to keep leaves or animals out of it. But he finally came back today, dug in this frigid air, replaced the section of pipe, put in a clean-out so we can access it easier than going through our toilet holes from now on, and put everything back. He did all that for about 1/5th the cost of what Roto-Rooter was going to do. SO thankful. Still a nice chunk of change to go out on a Sunday, but sure better than it could've been!
So to recap: Our sink is fixed and everything put back together under there. Our bathroom is put back together. Our yard is put back together. Our Christmas stuff is down and put away. I'm doing laundry now and starting to pack for Vegas, which we leave for tomorrow afternoon. We're feeling rather accomplished over here, actually!
We're going to order in a dinner for us all to have with Kaylee before we leave for 4 days, and I'm going to go out tomorrow and get her some flowers or a little gift to put on her table on her deck as a pre-birthday thing too, to hopefully make her smile a bit while we're gone. Birthday Girl turns 24 in 4 days. :)
