WE HAVE WATER

The guy who no-showed yesterday was supposed to come today sometime between 2-4 pm. By 4 pm he still wasn't here. I was mad and would have called them but didn't have their name/number. Steve got home at 4:15 and was getting ready to call them, and in pulls the truck and The Guy. He grabbed a shovel and dug a very large hole in our back yard, through frozen ground, in no time flat. He found the pipe, and it's heavy duty clay, not plastic, and he cut a hole into it so he could see straight down in it. He found a mass where it was blocked. He took his snake or whatever it's called and ran it through there until it was open, and then had us turn our water on in the house. ALL of our water. Bathtubs, sinks, flush our one toilet, even told me to fill the washing machine and drain it. He then took a finer...blade...whatever and went through the pipe again. And we now have the ability to use our water. Hallelujah. We still have a large hole in our back yard, and a hole in our sewage pipe at the top, but he's coming back tomorrow to work on it some more, and in the meantime we don't have to pee in a bottle or go next door to shower or do everything else, and it wasn't $6800, either. Or won't be even after he's done doing everything else he still has to do. (Put in a clean-out, fix the pipe, etc.) He's also found that a main problem is outside of our area, a seal is missing at the main hook-up, and that's the city's responsibility, so he's going to mark it, contact them, and THEY'LL have to dig up the alley and fix it from there. So...even better. Two problems mostly resolved! We still only have one toilet because the one by our bedroom needs some repairs made to the floor before he puts the stool back in. But we have a toilet! That flushes! And I could run my dishes and my laundry at the same time again. No gurgling, backing up, or next door stuff. It was great.

Bottom line, Roto-Rooter really screwed up. We did not have a pipe collapse. They just never cleared the pipe properly in the first place. They were going to charge us $6800 to dig up our back yard and replace a hole section of pipe that was not broken in the first place. They charged us about $600 to not only not fix the initial problem, but to make it so bad we had NO water available to us. I want to let them know. Steve doesn't want to mess with it, just glad to have found someone who will fix it and knows what they're actually doing. So that's that, anyway.

Backing up, this morning I took my stuff over to Kaylee's and took my shower, after everyone else was gone. I hadn't realized I didn't have soap, so I walked to the front bathroom to borrow some of Kaylee's, and walked back, said hi to the cat, all sans clothing. Took my shower, got dressed, left the area, and as I was walking out, I remembered that Kaylee has a Cat Cam. A camera she uses to watch Molly play around in the living room. A camera that very well could have caught me meandering around buck naked. I texted her and said I hoped she wasn't watching the camera, because if she was I didn't have enough money to cover the therapy that would require. Fortunately she was not watching. But I shan't do THAT again. ;)

I stayed busy all day for not flying. I won't get into all the details because they're boring and not important, but I didn't go to lunch, and from the time I woke up until about 4:15 pm, I worked non-stop on various work things.  I have a trip to Wisconsin tomorrow in the Conquest with Andy's 3 guys. Saturday I have a trip in the Meridian with IWU's three guys doing a fundraiser thing in Nashville, TN. Sunday I have a trip in the Cheyenne with a Purdue coach, volleyball maybe, out to a game in Massachusetts, where we'll get back after 11 pm. Then first thing Monday morning, Steve and I are heading to Las Vegas for 3-4 days in the Conquest with Ethan and some of his crew.  So...all in all, it's gonna be a busy week.

The stake is where the blockage was and where he dug the hole

Here's our new hole in our back yard. It's really hard to get any kind of scale here

Looking down into the hole, into the hole in the pipe. You could flush a toilet and go watch it go by if you wanted. You're welcome. ;)
