Weekend Update

I didn't really do much of anything this weekend. There's your update. ;)

Friday it rained and winded thanks to Hurricane Helene leftovers. No flying, no trips. Got the house cleaned. Saturday we were supposed to go to Logansport in the T-6 and go to their community day and spend the day there. The weather was still rainy and IFR, so we didn't end up making it. Instead we went to Missy's, a brunch restaurant in town that used to be downtown but moved to not far from our house. Really good food, so we enjoyed that one. Then Kaylee came over and we all hung out for the night. Sunday I hung out with Kaylee too, and she and Steve went next door and worked on some stuff for her moving in there in the next month or two.

Kaylee's got her office where she works now. Up to now she's been borrowing someone else's office when she had a session, but now she has her own, and she's excited to decorate it and put her diploma and certificate on the wall. I'm excited for her!  She's doing well. Proud of her.

When she was home, I noticed bruises on her arm that looked like two fingers. I watch too many movies, and I know in her last place of work there were violent offenders. I asked her where those bruises came from in a tone of voice that she said "The dogs, Mom. The dogs were so excited to see me (she pet-sitted two dogs for the weekend) they jumped all over me. I have bruises on my legs, too.  You think I wouldn't tell you if a person attacked me or something?" I said she better.  Got all ready to go to war and it was just dogs.  ;)

Kind of a sad thing about Saturday. Like I said, we were supposed to go to Logansport, they were excited to have us and even advertised for us to be there. When Saturday came, neither Steve nor I felt like it. I was glad it was IFR, and when it turned MVFR I was glad it still wasn't great. I COULD have made it over after about 2 pm, it only lasted until 5 pm. They would have been glad to see us even for a shortened time frame. But we didn't feel like going. There are a lot of people who would kill to be able to fly a T-6 to an event on a Saturday. I felt bad that I didn't feel that way. I don't take the airplane for granted, or my ability to do neat things with it, and I know it won't be there forever, or I won't be able to forever. But sometimes...some days...you just don't have it in ya.

Today was Cleveland, Ohio (Lunken Field). It was low IFR, about 100' above minimums. Shot the RNAV in, and then Morgan and I went to breakfast. I had some of the best vanilla almond blueberry oatmeal I'd ever had. Delicious. Got back and paid my fuel bill (bought 100 gallons of Jet A to waive their $170 fee), and it was time to go to Decatur, IL. Higher IFR over there, shot an RNAV in, and while I was there I got a text from D asking if I'd be available to fly him to Miami tonight if needed. I said I'd be back around 6, he said he wouldn't know if he needed to go or not until 7:45 pm, so pencil it in, get everything ready, and then he'd let me know.

If we went, it would be in the 340, it would be 5 hour flight with a fuel stop, not leaving until 9 pm or so. So, getting to a fuel stop at midnight, meaning I had to find a place available at that time to stop at, and then arriving in Miami around 2:30-3 a.m.  We'd be there overnight, I'd be there all day, and we'd come home tomorrow night. So I spent my time on the ground there flight planning and getting ready for just in case. Basically D had a game he had to attend and officiate for his sons, and then he had an airline flight to Miami. He HAD to be in Miami in the morning for a meeting. So if his flight was delayed or he was late, he needed a way to Miami tonight, and that was me.

I didn't mind. Double pay on one day, and a free day in Miami.

But he texted at 7:45 pm that he was making his airline flight, and I was off the hook. I still billed for both my time and the time our guys spent pulling all the planes out of the hangar, topping off the 340, and rearranging them so that the 340 was in the front instead of the T-6 as it currently was.  So it's all good, and I don't have to fly until 3 am tonight after a 6 am wake-up call after all, which isn't too terrible for a middle-aged person to not have to do. ;)

When we got back, Steve and I met Chuck at Harvey Hinklemeyer's for dinner, and then home for me to catch up on receipts, paperwork, billing, and logbooks, as usual.  All good.

Me and Morgan

This isn't really Kaylee. I mean, it is, but it's an AI version. It came up with the clothes, the hair, the background, all of it. It LOOKS like her, it mostly is her, but it's not a real photo of her. How freaking creepy is that?  But it's a great photo, I think. She looks professional.  I told her she could use that as a resume head shot...
