I wasn't so fond of waking up at 6:30 am this time, and kind of laid in bed for 15 minutes longer than I should have, so I had to rush to get ready and get out of here on time. Pulled in just in time to preflight and go. I took Nick & Stephen with me to the Peoria area, and dropped them off. I waited around a bit for the weather, because where I was going next was only an 11 minute flight away. It was VFR where I was, and the weather on the phone said they were VFR there, so I took off and headed that way on my own VFR. Eleven minutes. Unfortunately, 7 minutes into it there was a cloud deck underneath me. I pull up their weather again, and now it says it's IFR and they are using the ILS to get in. Well, Poop. I don't want to call up and see if I can get a pop up IFR from these guys for a couple reasons. So I turn around and head back to my departure airport instead. I kick off the autopilot, pull back the power, and I'm doing an aggressive steep spiraling descent down in altitude. I'm alone so what the heck. Except the airplane doesn't like that and says out loud "ENGAGING AUTOPILOT", which it promptly does, to level my wings and pull up. I kick it off and keep my steep spiraling dive going and it engages autopilot again, which I disconnect again. And this is where I go...ya know, if I WANT the autopilot on, I will TURN the autopilot on. If I DON'T turn it on, I don't WANT it on. Yes, I know, it's supposed to save lives for people who can't fly straight and level by themselves. But I want the choice and I want to tell my cars and my airplanes what I want them to do, I don't want them to do the thinking for me and assume what I need. Bah Humbug. ;) So it doesn't like, uh, let's go with "60" degree, bank angles. Well, *I* do. Leave me be.
Even over there in Illinois the ladies behind the desk mentioned how everyone around them has some kind of bug, and when I walked into the FBO at Frankfort, the guy behind the desk said that the worker this morning left early with a mask on, saying "I'm sick, I gotta go", and went home. It's definitely running the rounds. RSV, Covid, and whatever other viruses are out there running rampant right now. Time to duck and hide.
Roadie really is going downhill quickly now. She's not eating much, she's more lethargic, and her eyes aren't bright and clear any more. She doesn't "wiper" on the door, or purr when you pet her. She is nothing but bones and fur. I'm thinking this is it. She's sweet, I'm just hoping she's not in pain. I can't tell that she is, but cats hide things...
