Friday I can't actually remember what I did, other than I know I had a flight with one of our new CFIs. He learned at Purdue, and Purdue didn't do him any favors on learning to fly. We can't really solo him in our airplanes yet, let alone set him loose with students, but we're working on it. Purdue is really, really bad on what they put through and get by with. I mean it. I won't get into detail here since this is public even if not super visible. Anyway, we went up for 1.7 and just did takeoffs and landings with almost no wind. Ended better than we started but...
Saturday, man. There was a Frankfort fly-in community day that I'd agreed to bring the C-45 to. It started at 7:30 am. I told them I wouldn't get there until 8-8:30 am. It takes me 20 minutes to get to the airport and almost an hour to pull all the planes out of the hangar, top off the C-45 with oil and get it pulled out, preflighted and ready to go, and 20 minutes to fly there. So as you can see, I had to wake up at 6 am in order to get all that done on time. I went to bed around 11, and woke up at 3 am unable to go back to sleep fully. At 6 am I woke up and it was foggy. I tried to go back to sleep and at 7 am woke up and it was foggy. Did that until after 8 when I just got up. I got out to the airport around 10 when the fog was finally starting to lift, and pulled out the 340, pulled out the Cheyenne. Checked the oil on BOB and it was only at 4 gallons per side. What?! So I had to hunt down oil and add at least 2 gallons to each side. This is harder than you think. It requires a ladder, a screwdriver or dzus tool, a 2 gallon jug, a leaky funnel, some paper towels, and hoisting that stuff up and down without dropping it or making a mess. Twice. Got all that done, and I am sweating. It's muggy and humid thanks to the fog/high moisture in the air. I get the C-45 pulled out and then get to put away the 340 and the Cheyenne and close up the hangar. By now I'm hot, sweaty, tired, and grumpy. Steve arrived after taking care of his mom, and we got in the airplane and flew to Frankfort, which was a whopping 15-20 minutes away. That was nice enough. Skydivers were dropping in while everyone was trying to land, and a helicopter was trying to drop candy for a large group of kids, but the skydivers wouldn't stop their loads long enough to let the kids do it. So the drop was supposed to be at 10:30 and it finally happened around 12:30. Group of people just waiting to do that for their kids. Our BT was there giving rides, did 3 or so. We were there on the ramp for people to look at except nobody did. Our plane was next to a PBY giving rides, and the BT and us. But folks weren't walking around on that ramp, so I'm not really sure anybody cares that we were there or not. I did it to support Frankfort as we're as much out of there as Kokomo now. But I never even saw the manager, and the head guy wasn't there, and the community didn't care that we were there. So I feel like I wasted my sleep and my morning. On the other hand, I got to fly the C-45 at no cost to me, so there is that. Afterwards Steve had a lesson at 1:30, so we left at 1 and got back in time for him to do that, and I reversed the process. Pulled out the 340, pulled out the Cheyenne, hooked up and pushed away the Beech. Hooked up the oil sump cannisters (One of those was stuck on so hard I had to hunt down a tool to use to get it off that morning, another hike to the other hangar, etc.). Put back in the 340 and the Cheyenne and locked up the hangar. Again, took a good long time, and again I had sweat running down my face and back. I knew i was going to be in trouble, so I drank a Gatoraid and some water and some caffeine. Didn't help. By that evening I had the headache. I drank water with a packet of electrolytes, took 2 Excedrin and 3 Extra Strength Tylenol. But once that starts, only one thing seems to stop it, and I don't know why.
I finally went to bed around 11:30, and I took a sleep assister, and I slept through until 10 am this morning. Laid in bed and surfed on my phone for another half hour before getting up and making myself some eggs with stuffed green olives and mozerella cheese in a flour tortilla wrap.
Kaylee is here doing homework and brushing the knots out of the cat's fur. Steve is doing some small house projects while watching 7 hours of "How It Is Made" (I just switched it to football but it's a terrible Indy game). I have done the usual, load of dishes, loads of laundry, emptying trash cans from kitchen and bathroom, and email and website catch-up.
I have a big day of trips tomorrow, starting at 6:30 am and going to 8-9 pm, four or five different legs/states. I have contacted the airport people asking them to have my plane out, and no response. So I have to harass them before they close, because I can't get it out myself and we need to be on the road by 6:30 am before they open (at 8).
