I went in and picked up my new contacts today, and dropped off my back up pair of glasses to get them set up with the appropriate prescription. My eyes changed a little bit again. They keep getting a little worse each year still. I figure they'll stabilize at some point, but not yet. As long as I can keep getting them corrected to 20/20 I can still get my 2nd Class Medical. *sigh*
Our offices are closed at the airport today, but people could take the planes if they want, and it was up to each instructor whether or not they wanted to fly. Jerry flew, and so did I. The others all took off. I flew with someone working on her complex endorsement and just getting stable landings down. I wouldn't sign her off yet today, but when I started to talk to her about it, she interrupted me and said she wouldn't sign me off and if I did she'd question my judgement. So she made that one easy. lol She just needs more consistency in the pattern and standardization on her procedures. She'll get there.
Steve and I went down to Carmel to eat at Charleston's. Good food, as always, but the bad thing was we got an appetizer (bang bang shrimp) and a dessert (key lime for him, cheesecake for me), on top of our meal (steak for him, a light chicken with angel hair pasta for me). So two hours later I'm STILL full. I regret nothing, but...I am full.
Something that made this meal a little less relaxing was the whole hubbub about the Conquest. They test flew it today, it still had a hydraulic leak, but they found the problem, but they can't fix it until tomorrow, but everything else ran great, but it can't get here till probably Wednesday, but...
Mark is my check pilot from Texas. He was flying a Cheyenne 400 to Pennsylvania where we take ours, for maint. While he was there we were going to do our ground with him, me and Ethan. He found out this afternoon that his wife has just been diagnosed with leukemia. An hour later he's calling me trying to figure out a way to get us done, because he won't be staying in PA. If the Conquest was ready I could fly him back Wednesday to Texas, he'd sign me off, I could then fly with Ethan and get his hours. But Wednesday is as soon as it may get up here. And Wednesday morning I need to go get Ethan's brother and his family in two round trips in the 340 home from TN. And if the Conquest isn't up here Wednesday, and I can't take Mark home, then, Mark is going to be taking care of his wife and not checking us out, so we will have to find another check pilot and start trying to schedule with them.
Meanwhile, Mark would like my help with the 400, doing trips with his client, Ted Nugent. Not joking. So he asked if I could pick up Ted on the 7th. Except the 7th I have T-6 rides I already committed to giving at an event. So he'd like me to take his flights the 13th-25th of July if possible. Except if I DO get checked out in the Conquest, Ethan will have me busy. But if I don't, then I might be able to do these others. Except I won't know that until at least Wednesday.
Meanwhile, I have said no to 6 Purdue flights, helping at all with the WASP T-6, and all of our own Air Power History Tour except for two weeks, one of which I am going to have to get a back-up pilot for now anyway, on top of 3 T-6 checkouts, for 10 hours, one of them for multiple days out of town for thousands and thousands of dollars who has now gone elsewhere, because the plane was going to be ready "tomorrow" or "next weekend for sure" since May. So I don't want to tell Mark 'no', that I can't help him in the Cheyenne for the 13-25th, because his wife has cancer and he needs a back up pilot and I've said 'no' to about everything else, and even have bushy eyebrows and bad hair because I can't get an appointment set up for those things either. Now it's supposed to be ready by Wednesday and everything else looks good. But we've all heard it all before. For months. If anything else glitches about Wednesday, I'm probably just going to tell him yes. I have turned down scheduling almost anything since the end of winter for Spring. I am probably missing Oshkosh. I am at the end of my ability to not start putting stuff on the calendar and just hanging out waiting and filling my time with whatever I can get in there last minute. I need this job and it will be good once it is rolling. I will be able to make a lot of money with it, which will really help out. But I need it to either get rolling, or I need to be able to do other things until it does. It's nobody's fault, nobody is doing anything wrong, I'm not mad at anyone, but I am frustrated at the situation. We all are.
The cat is so freaking bony. If she didn't have all that soft, fluffy fur, she'd look like a walking skeleton. If she was unhappy acting in the least, we'd take her in at this point. But she still seems okay somehow. Crazy little stubborn thing...
Since I'm going to be around tomorrow, nothing special going on for the holiday, I decided to finish Glenn's T-6 checkout on the 4th of July. He was willing to do last minute, and he only has about 2 hours left, so...we'll knock that out tomorrow. That'll be ONE guy I got done anyway, and only because he's able to fly here from Chicago in less than an hour and be willing to do it last second. Weather looks good, we just need to do stalls and pattern.
Now, we're going to watch a violent movie and relax until bed time, so that tomorrow I can get up and work some more. ;)
