New Yawk

I wouldn't have had to get up early this morning, considering my flight wasn't until 2:30 pm, but we were having the house cleaned this morning before Lon & Cathy come to stay and Steve leaves for Oshkosh, so we had to vacate the house fairly early anyway.  I could've used the sleep, but so it goes.

I tried to get someone to go on the flight with me. Usually there's a list of people who want to take a Cheyenne trip, but one had a dental appointment that his mom wouldn't let him cancel, one we needed to stay here and do maintenance, one is on vacation on a lake for the week, and the last one, well, I asked if she wanted to go and she didn't because we wouldn't get back until 8 pm or so.  She likes to snuggle with her husband after she gets off work at 4 pm, so her priority was getting home.  Personally I think she's crazy, you can snuggle any time but trips like that are rare and usually pretty highly sought after.  Goes to show she doesn't really care all that much, as it's the second opportunity she's just been uninterested in doing.  That's okay, I'll save them for someone who is really excited about it instead. Or I'll enjoy going by myself, reading a book, listening to music, and eating a mini cupcake while cruising along at 31,000'.  Even on the way home I watched the sun set and listened to tunes while everybody in the back passed out and took a 2 hour long nap.  They're coming home from Africa.  Long trip, good trip, but they're glad to be home.

I had to do a go-around out there.  That might be a first in that plane going somewhere. They cleared me to land #2 behind a Cessna on a 1 mile final. The Cessna slowed down to crawl speed and I couldn't get slowed up enough.  So I went around, and they had me do a tight, low, right hand pattern back in to land.  You don't do that a whole lot in a Cheyenne. I couldn't see the runway out the right side at all, couldn't get very far away because of all the airspace out there.  That was actually harder than you'd expect, to do safely and well.  It was like an instrument circle to land approach, only in the wrong direction where you can't keep an eye on it.  Anyway.  I made it and landed and then they got caught in NYC traffic and it took them 3 hours to get to the airport, so I had time to keep reading my book.

I got back to the house around 10 pm, and now it's 11:30 and I need to get to bed, as I have to leave the house before 7 am tomorrow to head back to Gunnison, CO.
