Finally today the weather broke. The sun came out for a bit. The temps got up to 33° or so. The winds were decent. I had a pre-checkride flight in the RG, and we did made-up VOR hold entries and holds, and then did vectors to final on an RNAV 5 and an ILS 23 approach at Kokomo. She did great. Came in and landed, topped off, talked about it, and then couldn't resist the call of the Champ. If I had been out there by myself, I'd have dragged everything out of that hangar and flown the T-6. Instead, I went in the Champ with her. She did several takeoffs and landings, and then asked me to show her a one-wheel landing, said I'd never demoed one of those to her before. I hadn't practiced them in over a month, I hadn't practiced them from the back seat maybe ever, and I was wearing my boots with heels making it tougher to feel my feet and fit them on the rudders well, not expecting to do any of that, but I figured what the heck, and had some fun. I landed on the left main, put it on both, went to the right main, wandered around on the runway a bit, and she got a kick out of it too. Good practice. Normally I don't like an audience when doing something for the first time in awhile, but...it was my chance and I took it. ;)
I'm up to 5 posted stories on my 'other' blog, that are just specific stories of a specific memorable flight. I've got another I'm working on to make it six. Trying to just put down some of those memories, like I said, before I forget them. Usually I find something in an old blog post or Facebook post that reminds me of the flight, and then I'll write up something. Some of them are really long with a lot of parts, because it was a long, complicated, convoluted day. A good story would only focus on one part of that, but I want to remember the whole thing, not just the one short part that makes the best story. I should still probably go back and edit and make some of them better reading, but at least for now they're down. I can always polish them later.
We got a call today--the guy who was looking at getting a T-6 in Ft Wayne and having me fly it with and for him? He found a really nice T-6. Jim Z went and looked at it as it's in N. Carolina, and said it's spotless and beautiful. So Jim told Steve to snag it, and Steve told the Ft Wayne guy to snag it, and he snagged it. Money has been sent and the deal is almost done. It runs out of annual in 3 days though, so they're going to do the annual down there hopefully, and then Jim will fly it up here to us when it's done, and I will have a shiny pretty nice new T-6 to fly! This was a very nice day!
Kaylee is doing well. Her soreness and stiffness is almost gone. She's still a little shaken, of course, but she's managing fine.
As usual, flying photos from the first flight I've had in 9 days and the first fun flight I've had since December. Long periods of time between therapy is not good for Laura. ;)
