Business Trippin'

Steve had to get up super early this morning to go get blood work done, which went so well he couldn't even feel the blood draw. Said he never felt a thing.  She's good!

I had to get up super early to go on a flight in the 340.  So I got in my car while the moon was still full and you could see the stars, before the sun even cracked the horizon, and drove an hour to the Frankfort airport.  Three of us took off for Peru, Illinois, which is where I go each Spring to do the "TBM Avenger Gathering", a lot of fun and a great event.  I've never been there when I wasn't in the T-6, and I've never been there when the weather wasn't crappy.  So today was an exception on both rules.  And it was weird seeing the empty airport, empty giant ramp.  It just looked like a quiet little normal midwestern airport instead of like the hopping event destination it's always looked like when I've been there before.  We were there a couple of hours, and then we headed to Evansville, IN for another project.  After that we were supposed to go to Ohio for a third project, which would have been three states for three projects in one day, but alas, they weren't prepared for us, so we just got the two in.  The good news is I get to go Thursday and get paid for going on a different day instead of just getting paid for one day.  So...works for me.  ;)

The weather has been amazing.  Sunny, warm-ish for mid-December, winds have been reasonable, and we're all still getting plenty of flying in.  That's a good thing, and after tomorrow, the days will start getting longer again, thank Goodness.  So tomorrow I have several students, while Steve goes with Nathan in the Aerostar to pick up Jamie.  Then Wednesday I'm supposed to go to NY with Kevin and go see a show with him and Leslie on Broadway.  A lot of New York/Broadway is shutting down again a la Covid, so we shall see, but so far I haven't heard ours is.  I do have to provide proof of vaccination paperwork.  I can't tell you how much I dislike that. In fact, on the topic of things I dislike, today in IL the FBO asked our guy where he was going and what business he was going to see.  I was like....excuse me?  They wanted to know both people who came to take the courtesy car, exactly where they were going and what company they were going to visit.  When ATC asks me "Why are you changing your destination", my answer is often "Because I FEEL like it."  When Steve asks me exactly where I'm going and what I'm doing and when, it bugs me, and I love him and am not hiding a thing and he has good reasons to because he's trying to figure out schedules and what he or I need to do.  I have a thing.  I can't stand people asking me questions about what I'm doing or why I'm doing it or where I'm going.  Most of the time they can just mind their own darned beezwax.  Except Steve.  He is my beezwax too.  ;)  But the FBO asking actually where I'm going--I'd lie and tell them some random place, or that I was just getting food, or whatever.  When they asked, he said "I'm going in town for a project we're working on." And they said "Where?" and he's like "In town here, north side" and they said "What business exactly are you going to see?" and that's where I'd be like...screeching brakes. I'm pretty sure I would not have given a proper answer after that.  Why exactly does the desk lady at the FBO need to know exactly what business we are going to see?

After Evansville, instead of Ohio, we came home, and I got a full day of flying in and still was home just at dark.  Not bad.

Not a thing on TV to watch, so I guess I'll catch up on a few other things and get ready for tomorrow.

This video is my student landing at Glenndale. My student is a Fed Ex pilot doing his tailwheel endorsement so "student" is in quotes, although he is a student of tailwheel. He made a nice landing, just a fast one, and we ended up splashing through the puddle in the middle, which you can see well if you blow this up.  Oops.  lol
