Camping

It rained all day, no flying, and I think it's going to be like that most of the week.  I'm supposed to go to Illinois on Wednesday, which will be fun with a 60-70% chance of rain/storms.  Then Friday I may be going out to Colorado and back, just because he wants to build flight time.  I'm getting paid for it, so that's okay.  Monday is a 340 trip to Ohio, Tuesday is the Flying Squirrels in Champs, Wednesday is the Cheyenne to Florida, Friday is our practice day for Wings over Indy event, and evening events, and Saturday is the event itself. The next Monday the 21st up to Wisconsin to do CAF checkout flights for them.  So...still plenty of things to keep me busy.  Just the next few days will be no students, most likely.  In fact all my students are going to have trouble getting in for awhile here.

Had an Indiana flight school plane crash yesterday. It was one of the LIFT planes.  They are based out of Indy which doesn't want them practicing there, so they go out in a swarm to all the nearby smaller airports, and inundate the patterns.  You may have 4-5 of them at a time in the pattern at Crawfordsville, Frankfort, Shelbyville, Indy Exec, etc.  A few of them have started making their way all the way up to Kokomo, but not nearly as many as the other small airports closer to Indy.  Well, yesterday one of them was up around 4000' doing stalls, and stall/spun it into the ground, killing both the instructor and student.  We don't have a lot of respect for the flying skills of the school people, shoving students through in 18 months who then become instructors themselves.  One 30 minute segment on spin recovery in a super decathlon, and go forth.  I don't know if a student locked up and the instructor couldn't overpower them, or if they got into a spin and the instructor panicked or didn't know how to get out of it, or what.  But ugh.

The part you care about--Kaylee finally texted me.  She said:

"It's going well. I'm still nervous, but I really like everyone.  I'm still nervous about how it's all gonna go.  I don't know my cabin assignment or anything yet. The first retreat group is just arriving but they have their own staff so we're just training and helping out a little bit.  Then there's another retreat group next week, and then I think our first term is after that.  I'm like, the most veteran counselor here. Not the oldest, but I've done this before and been at this camp the longest. So that's interesting. Also the camp has had a lot of renovations since I've been here.  And they still have my mug from four years ago." And that she loves us.  So, she seems to be settling in and doing okay, which makes my mother heart glad.  :)

Ann gets out of breath quickly, and isn't up and getting her own stuff yet, but she has been a lot more alert and bright-eyed and talkative, and is eating fine, and getting her meds in fine, if we get them for her.  She did see the text from Cathy that Ezekiel was born, on her own, which is the first time she's really used the phone herself in days.  So that's good too.

So yes, Morgan had her 2nd son today, Ezekiel.  So now there's Izzy and Zeke.  That's pretty cute, actually.  :)
