Winter Wonderland

It's funny, you'd think the U.S. has completely forgotten that winter happens in January and February and that can mean snow and blizzards and stuff.  Remember Wisconsin in the 80's?  We'd have still had school after the 8" we're getting here.  But it is interesting, anyway, having a good old-fashioned snow dump.  The world is white.  White sky, white air, white ground, white trees, white white white.  Fog and blowing snow and up to 1-2" of accumulation per hour and a possibility of up to a foot of snow.  I think we've gotten just under 5" so far, best I can tell.

I did not go on the trip, by the way.  I actually could have gotten out this morning, and probably gotten back in this early afternoon, but it was canceled anyway.  Fine by me, it would have been a lot of work with the possibility of a problem.

Steve and I went out today for lunch and met with AE and Ty, just so we'd have one last hoopla out and about before we got weathered in.  As we were leaving, it was just starting the heavier snow.  AE barely made it back to his farm before his area ended up with 200 yard visibility, freezing fog and blowing snow.  At our house it wasn't that exciting for several more hours.  I can see the snow whipping around in the wind via the outside house light.  Kind of pretty, actually, since I don't have to try to go anywhere.  I mean, if it's going to be bad weather, let it be bad enough that we all just sit here with hot chocolate and watch Mother Nature toss around outside from the comfort of our heated homes.  I'm thankful that OUR electrical company hasn't decided to do deliberate rolling blackouts and power outages like parts of several other states, Texas, Kansas, Missouri I think?  A family I know in Texas has a daughter on a ventilator and every time their power is shut down, her vent alarms before the generator kicks in, and apparently it's a pretty loud and annoying scenario when it happens all night long.  And you hope the generator kicks in appropriately every time or they get to hand bag their daughter so she can continue to breathe.  I mean, they have a good system so they don't expect that to be a problem.  But they still have an ambu bag handy.  Yikes.

I did have to keep in contact with everyone about everything all up in the air.  So the new 340 guy (his name is Ethan which I'm trying not to hold against him since I haven't liked the Ethans I already know) wants to fly Friday if the weather permits, before we take his plane on the trip to Florida on Saturday, if the weather permits.  So we've been talking.  I also talked to Melvin the mechanic today.  i had the part shipped there to arrive Saturday morning.  He said he got it today.  He also said the plane is in a snow drift right now and isn't going anywhere to be worked on, and that "he'll let me know".  So.  With the current forecast and current conditions and that little factoid, I let everyone know that plane isn't going anywhere yet, and I'd let them know when it was.  So mark that one off the list for the coming week.  No staring at the weather out west until I hear from Melvin.  Good enough.

I am having a winter food crisis.  I feel (am) icky and puffy and overweight, and yet I have terrible urges to just eat and eat, too.  It's all a mental thing, gonna have to break out of that soon, hopefully, before I put all the weight back on.  Food is an enjoyable thing to do.  Wish they made zero calorie food that tasted like 2000 calorie food.  ;)

Well, that's about it.  I'm guessing not much is going to happen for the next 24 hours as we continue to get the snow dump.  So hunker down and enjoy the show.
