Christmas

Everyone is in bed except for me and Ernie.  It was a nice, quiet peaceful Christmas.  Brutally cold outside, but none of us had to worry about it, as we cranked up the heat in the house, sat around with fuzzy blankets, and just occasionally looked out there.

It was so bleh outside the house that we didn't go out to see the lights at places, or go out to the airport, or do much of anything but hang out, and cook, and eat, and clean up afterwards, and that was just fine.

We did do something weird and sort of funny.  Ann watches the Hallmark Channel over at her house most of the day, and when nothing was on daytime TV but soap operas and bad talk shows, I put in on the Hallmark Channel.  And throughout the day we watched a bunch of Hallmark movies.  Kaylee likes them. Even Steve admitted he can kind of like them.  My Mom didn't mind them, and Ann likes them.  It's not generally my jam, but I didn't mind them either.  Feel good, silly, uncomplicated, predictable, people and stories you "pull" for.  There are a lot worse things to do or watch, and Christmas seems like a good time to relax to feel-good shows.

We slept in, opened gifts around 10 am, finished that and went in and fixed brunch.  Biscuits and gravy, pancakes, bacon, eggs.  We decided not to do hash browns, to save them for another day, as our plates were already full.  ;)  We ate enough that after I cleaned it up, everybody but me and Ann took a big nap.  After half of them woke up, I laid down for about 30 minutes, but never did really pass out.  So it goes.  ;)  Dinner was a spiral ham, leftover mashed potatoes and gravy from last night, rolls, and a green bean casserole.  Last night I made a turkey breast, the potatoes, rolls, and corn with cream cheese.  We have pecan pie Mom brought, delicious, and pumpkin pie that I got from the store but it's big and decent, the banana foster cheesecake from J Edwards (holy cow), ice cream to go on whatever, and just all in all way too much food.  I have no regrets.  It's all been really good.   My fridge is overly full, we even have some of it next door.  We'll be eating on some of this for awhile.  Anyone want any ham?  I have LOTS of that left.  ;)

On Christmas Eve I had to go back out to the store, because the three other places I went didn't have some of what I needed.  The only place left to go was Wal-Mart.  I'll tell you what, say what you want about Wal-Mart, they know how to do it.  The aisles were packed with crates of food, a worker or two in every aisle restocking.  It made it more chaotic and cramped, but at the same time, THEY WEREN'T OUT OF ANYTHING.  They had it all.  I didn't see an empty spot on a shelf, including the TP aisle.  And the prices are more reasonable than the more refined, lots of empty space, "classier" Meijer and Kroger.  So, while Wal-Mart is not my typical go to place, and I detest going during a busy time, they came through for me in the end when no other place did.  I wore ear buds, and light layers, and just plowed my way through.  And by the way, the crowds out and about...Indiana's Rt factor is below 1.0 as far as Covid spread, but still, numbers have been way up for awhile now anyway, and that's an impressive amount of people out and about.  I still feel like if we can all cram into Wal-Mart, we can sit down in a bar or small restaurant at tables constantly cleaned, with plexiglass half the time in between people.  But I guess I won't mess with that any more tonight.

It's been a weird year.  There have been a lot of difficulties.  We've lost people we care about, we've lost a pet we care about, our country is in upheaval, business is in upheaval, life is in upheaval.  What you focus on is what you see the most, so it's always important to me to remember that we are here, we are healthy, we have a warm comfortable home, and each other, and hope for the future.

Wal-Mart. It took awhile to get the aisle clear so I could snap the photo. Fighting people with the pallets is tough, but at least they keep their shelves full.

I masked up and put in ear buds and ready to go into wal-mart.

She asked for it!  lol
