Stops and Starts

Like I said, haven't had a lot I can comment on lately.

Kaylee is in Marion, has finals week coming up, and some work to catch up on.  She struggled after the accident at Glenndale, had trouble focusing on school work, and her professors gave her until the end of the semester.  So she's studying and trying.

Ann had her second eye surgery on Tuesday, to remove cataracts on her right eye, and the surgery went swimmingly.  She was sitting out on the porch doing just fine the same day.  :)

Steve noticed over the weekend that Dulcie was moving very slowly, he hadn't seen her eat or drink, and her skin was yellow around her head.  So yesterday I took her in to the vet.  They had me wait in the car, and called to tell me that she's severely dehydrated, had an ear infection in both ears, and...has a mass in her abdomen.  That the yellow skin and everything else in a cat of her age, she's not coming back from it.  The vet said she could run x-rays if I wanted, try to see if it's a cancer mass in there, etc., but that there "isn't a rosy outcome" no matter what.  She also said I could bring Dulcie home with a feeding tube, that we'd have to care for with her at home for the forseable future.  Dulcie is not a feeding tube kind of girl.  She is the "leave me outside and let me chase squirrels and defend my property against bigger, meaner cats and dogs" type cat.  She has been standing by the back door just waiting to be let outside every day that it was nice, and we'd do it, then she'd go lie in the garden or under the tree for hours.  If she had her choice, she'd probably go out there to die.  If it stayed warmer, we'd let her, but it was 39 degrees this morning.  So I brought her into the house and left Roadie on the deck.  I can't get Dulcie to eat, drink, lick, nothing.  I put water on my finger to to her mouth, rubbed it gently on her mouth, and she won't even lick it off.  She still struggles and gets up to use her litter box, because she's too polite of a cat to pee on the deck, unlike her sister.  She's going to die in the next few days, unfortunately, and we're all pretty sad about it.  Even Steve, who never liked cats.  But this one sits in a chair by the fire with the boys, hangs out with them, and she was always the feisty protective one, which he likes.  ;)  So when we woke up this morning we stared at her out there to see if she was still breathing.  She slept all day, until this afternoon, and then when she got up to go to the bathroom (can't be much left there), I brought her inside, and she's quite content in here.  She's curled up next to me, and if you rest your arm on her you can feel her purring.  She's a sweet cat.  I'm sorry that she has to go.  But we've had her since she followed Kaylee up and down the street on her training-wheels-on bicycle when she (Kaylee) was 5 or 6.  That's a pretty good run for a cat, but she's been here Kaylee's whole childhood.  She's sad too, obviously.  So now we wait, and hope that she can be comfortable.  If not we'll have to take her in to the place she hates the most, to give her the shot to let her go as peacefully as possible.  We don't want her to suffer.  So far she's purring and sleeping.  Hopefully sometime she just doesn't wake up from that nap, and that's the end for her.  If it was a warm day and I could let her be outside under her tree, that would be even better...

This afternoon I flew for the first time in awhile.  BOB is going to Atlanta on Friday morning, and I may be going as well.  Before it/we go, there are a couple maintenance things that need looked at, so I did the test flight for that, so Nathan can go in and fix it hopefully tomorrow, so we can button it back up and prep it Thursday for an early Friday departure.

I had groceries and soup delivered for Ann today.  Kroger and Meijer are BOTH completely out of any cracker that doesn't have salt on it, and most crackers that do.  They are limiting toilet paper to one package, and Meijer doesn't have most name brands.  I got smarter this time.  I might have said this already, but anything that isn't perishable, I've been getting an extra one every time I shop.  So every time I shop, I grab some TP.  I will not be caught scrounging at gas stations hoping to find a couple rolls again.  Same for paper towels, some non-perishable food items, some frozen food items, etc.  When we have to lock down again, by george we won't be short of most stuff.  Can't do much about the perishable stuff, but...what I can have on hand, I shall.  I don't have so much that I could be called a hoarder, I just plan on having a decent stock.

I was excited that TV shows are starting up again, that finally there is something on TV.  But of course they all have to be Full-On WOKE.  Leaving me having a hard time even enjoying "feel good" shows like "This Is Us".  I really, really, really, really wish we could go back to TV shows like...McGuyver, that just had a spy plot.  Or Criminal Minds where you just solved a psychologically based who-dun-it.  I am so disappointed to turn on the TV for entertainment and still get some of this stuff crammed down my throat.  I've been watching cheesy movies.  Family movies, feel-good movies.  At least those still exist politics free.  :)

Dulcie is curled up on Steve's lap now, purring.  She's very happy to be in here...

I love these views.  C-45, T-6, I wish, hope, something, that I always have the opportunity to fly old radials.

Jon and Dave fueling up BOB after my flight. This thing is a pain to service.

Dulcie curled up and sleeping in her box on the deck before I brought her inside today.  Look at her little paw over her eyes.  So cute.
