The Squirrels Ends

Today was the last official Tuesday of the Flying Squirrels.  There are some kids who didn't make it every week and have some make-up flying to do.  One kid I'm going to finish his last two hours.  He is getting ready for his Private Pilot checkride, and for this program, I was working on his tailwheel endorsement.  We've done everything except concrete crosswind landings, the most important thing, and we've had *zero* wind the last two weeks.  So today, I flew with him for awhile, but we played with one-wheel landings, and then we went up and did spins.  He loved it.  He burst out laughing after the first one, and we did several more.  As soon as we got on the ground, he was telling everybody what we did, and some of them were jealous, and some were freaked out.  My next kid was Owen, and he is the cousin of Kaylee's best friend.  :)  He wanted to do spins too.  This is not part of the program and I feel like I could get in trouble for this.  lol  So I just did one quick spin entry with him and the rest of the time we did what we were supposed to.  He asked me later how much flying lessons with me would be.  I didn't want to tell him 1) It's a lot and 2) we wouldn't just be doing fun stuff.  ;)  All in all I had four guys, and flew for 4.7 hours total.   It was 91 degrees and the humidity that morning was 98%.  I don't know what it got to later, but it was hot and miserable.  We were all dying.  I took water bottles with me in the plane every time and drank one per lesson.  I almost have a headache from drinking too much water.  That's a thing, even if I do also drink caffeine.

I weighed myself, and I'm still doing all right.  Haven't lost any more, in like a month, but still stable and hanging in there.  I'm on Day 99 of my Spanish lessons.  By now I should be fluent, but not at the rate I'm learning, so I'm feeling fine about what I've learned thus far day by day.

Kaylee's first day of training at Outback went well today.  She has a quiz tomorrow over their appetizers.  What they are, how they're made, what's in them, etc.  Today they went over steaks, what they were, how they felt, appetizers, wines and mixed drinks, and they all tested out everything except the under 21 people didn't taste the alcohol.  Next time they do desserts and some entrees.  She enjoyed herself, learned some stuff, and has friends there who were happy to see her, so she's happy about that too.  She looked quite sharp all dressed in black, too.

It was so hot out that the cats were dying on the deck, even with the air conditioning on.  It was like 97 on the deck.  So I let them in the house, as they were lying there sadly and Dulcie was panting with her mouth hanging open.  Not good for them.  It's not supposed to be any cooler for the foreseeable future, either.  So I'm dying in the plane, and they're dying on the deck.  It'll cool down overnight, but we may have to let them in during the afternoons. They're old, you know?

Today I got my exercise in, for the first time in awhile, because for once I was  home during the afternoon.  I had two more flights this afternoon and both canceled for different reasons.  So I was able to call the doctor's office to let them know we were ready to set up the MRI for Ann, I was able to talk to a couple guys and mostly get set up for the C-45 checkout flight, I was able to do some housework, clean out my email and take care of most of that, get to the store and pick up a few things I forgot yesterday, and basically do that thing where I catch up on stuff on rainy days.  Of course we haven't had a rainy day in ages, and don't have one in sight, either.

So the C-45 checkout has to happen in the next two weeks.  The other guy had never gotten back to me, so I asked Doug, who said he'd do it.  THEN the guy got back to me and said he could do it the last week in July.  Our event is the 20-26th, and the 25th is the earliest he could do it.  So I'm going to find a diplomatic way to tell him thanks but I'm going with someone else.  I hope to give rides at our event, which I can't do if our plane is grounded for the one event we have this year besides the Bash, where I probably won't have the C-45 in.  Not feeling confident about it at Glenndale at the moment.  Maybe that'll change. Anyway.  Now I'm nervous, having a checkout coming.  I hate checkrides.  I know, I said that already.

I can't remember what else I was going to talk about.  So...

Sweaty, hot, messed up me in the back of the Champ during the Squirrels flight

I took several photos of these roses I brought back from TN, that bloomed beautifully.  Trying different lighting/things
