Busy day. Started off with a 172RG checkout with the deaf lady, and she does very well on procedures. Not the strongest stick and rudder pilot in the world, but nothing bad. Steve and I met Chuck for lunch, and he told me they saw me go by Glenndale last night in the T-6, and wondered if it was Nathan because "Laura would have gotten lower". I didn't do a full-on buzz job this time, I just kept it about 100' up and went by and rocked my wings at the golf carts down there. I thought that was funny. From there I went up and did my loops and rolls, and apparently most of them could still see that even though I wasn't really that close to Glenndale when I did it. Chuck has cataracts, so he said he couldn't see me no matter what. lol
Steve's Jeep has to get a new fuel tank put in it. They punctured it or something when repairing something else. So he was driving the Vette today. Hopefully tomorrow's weather holds off or he'll be in trouble in the Vette in the rain.
Kaylee is down in Indianapolis today, spending the night with a friend down there that she went to Thailand with. She wanted to try to make "mango sticky rice" with her friend in honor of their Thai time. She started the morning going to a "Cat Cafe". Steve said she could brew a cup of coffee at home and sit on the deck with her own cats, but it's not the same.
I had two more flights this afternoon. One didn't go as planned. He went backwards and struggled with the crosswind and then with everything. I actually got on him. He was getting slow on final, pulling the nose up, even if I said something he wouldn't fix it. Even after I let him get to a stall horn going off 50' in the air he didn't fix it and I had to rescue it. I did something I rarely do, and I said "Look. All this other stuff you're messing up, we can work on, we can fine tune before a checkride. But I NEVER want to see that again." So he didn't have a very good day. Then one of Steve's guys also didn't have a very good day, because he kept asking about when he could take his checkride, so Steve went up with him today and proved he's not ready for his checkride. A bit of an ego buster. Sometimes those things are needed for perspective even though they aren't fun for us or them.
My last flight of the day, from 7-9 pm (yawn), was fun. She's a young teenager, timid, but quietly sarcastic, and we get along well. She learns quickly and just needs confidence.
Tomorrow we're supposed to have a bi-plane fly-in. We were going to set it up tomorrow, have dinner and a fire, etc., and then Saturday have more people fly in. Well, now the weather is tanking, so we're just going to go out there to hang out, and whoever comes, comes, but the 'event' is sort of canceled. I was going to take the T-6 over, but with a 25 knot crosswind and a 50% chance of pop up thunderstorms and rain (more that part), I'll probably not. We'll see about Saturday, and then I go to Atlanta Saturday evening to drop off a couple people. I won't get home from that until midnight most likely.
Somewhere in here I need to find something to wear to a wedding in July in Nashville, TN. But I can't do sleeveless because I don't have the arms for it. I have nothing to wear, and I don't know what to wear, and I have to go find something by July 3rd, when we leave for TN. Wish me luck. And if you have any brilliant ideas on what I'm supposed to wear, let me know. *sigh*
On the CAF, it's been almost a week since I emailed the guy asking when he could come up to do my checkride. He got right back to me and asked about our COVID rules in this state. I told him Indiana has no quarantine nor issues. He never got back to me. Today I emailed him back and asked to know what time frame he's thinking, and gave him some info. Haven't heard back yet. I'll give him until mid next week, and then I just might contact Doug R. to get this show on the road. I want this done. So does everyone else. I'm not going to lose the rest of the summer to waiting for this fellow to get back to me and schedule something when I have other options.
On a female pilot board, somebody said "Hey, Duluth Trading Company has women's underwear with airplanes on it!" I was like, yeah, yeah, whatever. And then I looked at the picture, and I cracked up. Of all the planes to put on their underwear, they did a T-6. And the year 2020 is on there too, marking the weirdest dang year in our history to date. I don't know, I might have to do it. T-6 underwear. HAhahaha.
Seems inappropriate leaving a picture of underwear up there, but I suppose that's me being old-fashioned. I still think it's funny though.
Well, when you don't get home until 9:30 pm, and you eat dinner at 9:45 pm, and it's already 10:45 pm, and you should think about bed within the next hour but don't want to because you just got home, it feels a little sad. I need a little more time to wind down, ya know?
