At least for us, in aviation, don't know about anyone else.
Kaylee is looking into a different place to get a job and is going to get a haircut tomorrow, and is planning on chopping off her hair to her collarbone. Right now it reaches her waist, so that'll be a big difference!
Steve had to meet with the TSA today, as he does once per year, and it's always a pain in the butt. He spent a few hours with him, learned what he didn't have right for this guy this time, and survived without getting too mad. So that's a bonus.
Kaylee and Meredith were originally set up with a 3-person room, as the only two occupants in it. They didn't want to have a third roommate. I gave Kaylee an idea of what to say to ask for either two in one room or to be moved to a two-person room. Today she found out that they are switched to a private double room on the first floor, which is "awesome", since the other room was on the 3rd floor, plus it's private so they'll have no roommates and no sharing of a bathroom. She's thrilled about that. But she's so nervous about upsetting people, that she's afraid she sounded mean or pushy just by asking for a room change. The part that made me smirk is that Meredith and her sister both said "no way that'll work", and I told Kaylee to try anyway, and it did work. Nya nya nya. ;)
So as for me, it was another busy one. First thing up with my first flight in the Citabria in like six years, I think. Or more. I was checking out someone named Jim, who is going to be flying it. He hadn't flown anything in ten years. He's flaring a little high, but otherwise his instincts and reflexes are all there, and he did really well. I signed him off after an hour and a half, flight review and all. I miss the airplane. It'll be good to see it flying more often though. It needs to.
I got out to the airport and met with the guy I did the long IFR x-country with the other day, and we did a thorough debrief, something we couldn't do that day because I ran late. We got some good info in there, and I think I helped him quite a bit with a few things. I think he'll do much better next time out, too. My 3 o'clock person had a breakthrough, and is finally seeing that level off and flare. They were super excited, and walked away with a bounce in the step. Then my 5 pm did the same thing. Nailed it, over and over and over, after the worst flight in the world last week. I almost high fived the person. It was exciting, and I just pray he can come back and do it again, and be consistent with it. Maybe, just maybe, I'll be able to solo him. My fingers are SO crossed right now.
My arms are sore today. The reason why is sort of funny. When I did the High Performance endorsement with Spencer, we used the Saratoga. Then I dropped him off at Sheridan, and flew home by myself. When I went to put the plane away, the powered tug was broken. I couldn't fix it. So I had to grab the short tow bar, hook it up, and try to push away this 3500 lb airplane by myself. I could barely get it rolling putting all my weight into it. Then I had to stop, pull it out, and reposition it, because it wouldn't turn tight enough. There was a guy two hangars down I could have asked for help, but I didn't care for him much, and we'd just had a slight altercation in the air, and I would rather have fallen on my face than asked him for help. At the end, I was seeing sparkles in my vision, my heart was pounding out of my chest, I couldn't stop coughing and wheezing. I am about 95% sure I have and have always had exercise induced asthma. So does Kaylee. I looked it up because of her, and the symptoms are dead flat nose on. But I got the dumb thing pushed away without help, and then collapsed in the hangar for about 10 minutes before I could walk back to the main hangar. At the end I was out of gas, just putting all my weight onto it and churning my legs, couldn't even see where I was going, but I'd been straight before my last push. I thought, if it stops again, I'm done. It didn't stop, and I got it done. I had to get mad and stubborn both. Today my arms are sore, apparently using muscles I haven't used in awhile. lol
Back on the exercise induced asthma. It says you can use an albuterol inhaler before you exercise and it'll prevent the lungs tightening up. I'd like to try it, actually, and so would Kaylee, who has been conditioning and running for months now, and still cannot run for longer than 2 minutes without dying. Which has always been my limit too. She can lift weights for hours, she can walk all day. She's in decent shape at the moment, still can't run. Just like I've been in the past. Interesting, huh? I'm sure not going to get diagnosed with asthma, but I may see if I can my hands on one to test it out.
One of my former students made up t-shirts with a slogan that I always teach them when shutting down an airplane. "Mixture, Master, Mags". It helps remind them to get the main important things shut down if they missed something on the checklist, etc. So he made up this shirt, and it made me smile.
Tomorrow I go to Kentucky in the 340. It's gonna be 90 degrees. Good Heavens.
