Winter Storm whatever arrived, and it's fine, except it's a little hard on runways and temperatures. I was supposed to fly to Michigan this morning. Except where we were going, we had to go very low to avoid icing in a plane not allowed to fly in known icing, and when we get there, one runway is closed, and the only other runway open there, half the size of Kokomo's runway, has braking action of "poor", and let's not forget a 35 knot *direct* crosswind. So a more narrow, slippery, snow and ice-covered runway with poor braking action, with a 35 knot direct crosswind, in a 172RG. I asked how badly they needed to go this morning, because I wasn't thrilled at the potential for a runway slide-off in Michigan. He decided to drive. ;) And I went back to bed after being up at 5:30 am to check on weather and conditions.
I do not regret the decision, even though I'm out a day's pay.
I got Kaylee some melatonin to see if it would help her catch some sleep. She's like me, she's always had trouble falling asleep, and gets into a cycle where she's tired all day and awake all night. Like me, all too easily. But life is harder when you're tired, and melatonin is a natural substance that isn't supposed to have really any side effects that I can find. So she tried it last night, and said it was magnificent, she was able to lie down and just go to sleep. She got a great night's sleep. So I got some for me, too, and on nights I seem to have an issue, I'll try taking it and see if it works for me, too. Why not? It's better than the z-quil stuff.
Steve and I drove over to Marion this afternoon to return her car to her after fixing it, and to bring her a couple suitcases for her to pack up some of her stuff for Spring Break here, and we stopped at her student center and had a cup of coffee and some Chick-Fil-A. Good stuff. We just sat around and talked about life for awhile. She registered for her next semester's classes tonight, and got in everything. She says next semester has some tougher classes, and that she's kind of glad of that, and also looking forward to having social work specific courses. Her school student center is still so cool. What a neat place to be and hang. She has some amazing opportunities at that school. She's a very fortunate girl.
Here we are in the car dropping her off at her dorm.
