This morning, Encore sang at Zion Church, which is where Kaylee goes for youth group and sometimes for Sunday morning services as well. So Steve and I went to hear her/them sing for the worship service. During the praise and requests portion, a man stood up and said that to these kids this probably seemed normal, but when they got out there in the real world, he hoped they looked back on the days that they had a choir director of a public school taking them around to churches to sing on Sunday mornings and how rare and unusual that is. Today's church service had a couple of firsts for me. For one, it was a woman pastor. I don't know too many (any?) conservative churches that have a female pastor. Kaylee and Steve ended up in a discussion on that topic about a year ago, looking into what the Bible actually has to say about it. Another first was that they had communion today, and they had actual loaves of homemade looking bread that they broke chunks off with their hands, and handed to people. After using hand sanitizer, of course. The pastor and two helpers broke the bread and handed it to the line of people who would come up and go past them. After everyone made it up, the pastor took a loaf of bread and walked to the back, where she served a couple of people who were too infirm to be able to get up and walk to the front, stand in line, etc. I thought that was neat. She also let us know they had a gluten-free bread option too. For some reason, gluten-free communion kind of makes me snicker, but I know of at least one family that attends there who would need it, so, that's nice of the church to provide it. At the end of the service, the TV screens around the auditorium that are used to put the words to songs, Bible verses, etc. on, all flashed the same message: "Let's Go, Rams!!" We all laughed and many clapped.
Steve and I had breakfast after church at Frittatta's. It's an excellent breakfast/lunch place, that is always packed out, especially on Sundays. So it was good that we got there before the rest of the church crowd arrived, because we still had to wait 20-30 minutes to get seated. But I had Bavarian Creme french toast with blueberries, and it was totally worth it. Kaylee went with Encore out to Don Poncho's for lunch, came home and worked on homework, then went back out to Youth Group for awhile. She was going to go to a Superbowl party after that, but didn't end up doing it for some reason, but she's too cranky to talk to without getting in trouble for being cranky, so I'll leave her alone so she won't be cranky at me so I don't have to yell at her for it. I'll ask later. I assume she has homework or something she has to finish by tomorrow and ran low on time.
We got the new fridge hooked up and cooled down, and Kaylee and I transferred all our stuff into it last night. Steve tried out the water function, only to realize hot water was coming out of it. Apparently our fridge has been hooked up to the hot water line all these years, which didn't matter much for the ice maker, so you never knew. But it certainly matters when drinking water "cold" out of the fridge that makes your glass hot. So Steve gets to go back down into the crawl space, and do whatever guy thing he has to do to tap into the appropriate line. He's pleased. ;) Actually, he's not too bad, because he found what he needs to do the project at Menard's today, so he'll get to it maybe next weekend.
One annoying thing, the fridge kept beeping, 5 beeps, every few seconds. We looked at the manual, we looked everywhere, and finally figured out it was a door-not-shut alarm, even though the door was indeed shut. Then Steve found out it was a known issue. So the solution was to put a piece of tape over something, so we currently have no interior light in the fridge, or it'll beep 5 times every few seconds. Both are annoying, but he thinks he knows what to do to fix that.
It looks good though. We both really like the black stainless steel.
Today Steve and AE took our old fridge out to the airport hangar. So I finally did a load of dishes (now that I could access the sink and dishwasher), and got everything back in order in the kitchen. I like it. We have a ton of refrigerator photos and stuff, and partly I liked having them visible, but right now I'm more liking having it cleaned off and not cluttered looking. So I might just leave all the photos off this time. We always put the new school photo of Kaylee up each year, but there are no new photos of the cousins in years now, or after this year, of her either. So maybe it's time. Steve may disagree though, we'll see. :)
I also started in on Project Bookshelf Declutter. So far I've gone completely through two shelves only, the top shelf on both the left and right bookshelf, and done a quick scan on a few other shelves. I threw away a couple things that weren't needed any more, and pulled out 48 books to give away. Looking at the shelves, you cannot tell there are almost 50 books missing from them. They're still stacked up. It's unbelievable. I'm not done yet, obviously, but the majority of those were books on pregnancy, breastfeeding, What to Expect books, Toddler and baby activities, devotionals for children, etc. All stuff that is both outgrown and will never happen again. So much more to do, but first I need a box to take these first 48 books in before I have room to put more aside. So it felt like a pretty accomplished day, really.
