Monday Wanderings

This morning Nathan and I and Terry, one of Steve's students as well as company employee flew in the Cheyenne to Waukegan, IL.  It was foggy at Kokomo.  We had like 3/4 of a mile and 300' overcast.  We were on top at 2300', and it was clear blue above.  They routed us around up there as always.  When we landed, we all went to a company up there that does specialty machinery.  They demonstrated various pieces of machinery that the company is going to/looking to buy, and went through all the steps, maintenance, uses, etc.  It was pretty interesting seeing how everything worked, the scientific part of it too.  I thought Mom would get a kick out of a lot of that.  Cuttings of various elements, ground, polished, etched, microscoped, measured, reports generated, etc. Different abrasives, polishing cloths, machines that have automated a lot of it.

We left there around 5:30 pm our time, and got to watch the sun set.  When we flew right next to  Chicago O'Hare, it was a busy time of day, and they had strings of airliners out there lined up to come in and land.  There were big ole jets 1000' above and below us, turning around us, and lined up off the left.  It was a great view, really, but I couldn't get a real good photo of most of it.  The sun finished going down as we got on top of a cloud deck, and the tiny crescent moon became visible.  The clouds were 900' overcast at Kokomo, and the tops were right at 2500', so we were skimming the tops at sunset for quite awhile.  Again, nice view.  Nathan flew the ILS down 23 at Kokomo, and we were home, and it was 6:11 pm and dark already.   Depressing.

Kaylee wanted Culvers, so I ran past there for her.  She didn't go to school today, and she's still sick and won't be going tomorrow either, but she said her head was better.  She's trying really hard to be well in time for the rest of the week's events.

Steve and I got our Christmas tree up yesterday. Not decorated, but up.  It's a part of the battle, at least.  We have boxes of lights or decorations that we'll need to get going on too, but I'm too tired tonight and I think he is too.  :)  Soon!

Here's a series of photos of the traffic and the sunset...

The original photo of the Chicago traffic off the wingtip.

Cropped in so you can see it.

I think this was the 777 that was 1000' below us.

The cloud deck just below us
