Since she didn't have other plans with friends yet, she and I drove together to Starbucks while Steve went to Glenndale to get some work done. Kaylee and I sat in the Starbucks and talked for a couple of hours. We talked about everything from school to life to legalization of pot to, well, all sorts of stuff. Then she started looking around, and I said "What, is someone here?" She said "Yes", she'd gotten a text. It was her friend Sam (Samantha) who had graduated last year, and she came over and chatted with us for awhile, and was joined by Nate, also in Encore last year who graduated, and we all hung out for a few before I drove us to Glenndale so I could go with Steve to lunch and she could drive to Chipotle to meet her friends for lunch. It was a nice morning!
I dropped off a receipt into the mail for SMA Support, Steve and I had lunch with Ty and Chuck, and then we drove down to Noblesville to pick up our couch seat. The one that the people restoring it have had for over 6 months. They made the seat of it a different color than the one they'd done before, and it doesn't match very well, and was $100 more than they quoted. They're nice folks, but we won't be using them again for anything. Steve told them he wasn't pleased about some of that. It's SO nice to finally have a whole couch again though!
While we were on a roll, we went to the furniture store, and we picked out a recliner chair, to replace our broken down one in the living room. It'll be delivered on Thursday, and we'll finally have no chairs with holes in the seats that have to be covered in blankets. We're kind of excited about this. It's been a long time. Years, actually. Which is dumb. It was so easy to just get it done once we decided to do it. The recliner we got also came with heat and massage if we wanted. I kind of did. But not for $300 more. And Steve said "It's one more electric thing to break/fail", which is also true. So it's just a normal chair. Besides, we'd have all three fighting over who got to sit in it all the time, and family harmony is more important. ;)
We stopped by the post office and I mailed off the billing, so got that done too. When Steve got the mail, there was an envelope in there for Kaylee. When she opened it, it was an acceptance package to Indiana Wesleyan University, or "Eye-Woo". Her friend Meredith is going there. She also got a letter that says she has been awarded a $32,000.00 scholarship for there because of her grades and such. That's pretty cool! She will probably need to bump it back a semester since she'd like to go to Oregon and do the Discipleship Training School (DTS) for six months too. But it's an option for her, and options are good. It's at least a plan, a place, and they have a neat program where they will let the students take a variety of courses, to help them find something that trips their trigger, too. She loved the campus (she visited) and the housing, and she was pleased to get the acceptance packet. She could use the prayers to know where she should go and what path to follow as she comes up on the end of her Senior year and is feeling the pressure, especially from all those other high performing friends of hers who all seem to know exactly what they want and are on their way to do it. She's not so sure yet and doesn't want to rush into starting something she's not sure of and waste her time and money. She's a good kid, and I think she'll do well at about whatever she wants to do, she just needs to find that thing that sets her on the path to where she knows what she wants.
Me, Nathan, John R and Steve in the Aerostar on our way to lunch at Muncie last Saturday. :)
Kaylee's acceptance package. If you blow up the photo you can read the letter too, I think...
