Kaylee is in a college course about religion--religious beginnings, maybe? I can't remember. But she's doing very well in it, and she's pretty proud of it. One assignment per week so far, a paper she has to write after she reads an article of some sort. Today's was about different religions' theories or myths of the beginning of the world. Then she had to explain the difference between literal and metaphorical stories, etc. She finds learning about the other religions pretty interesting, too.
Yesterday Kaylee had her first fender bender. She was backing out of a church parking lot, and bumped into the car parked behind her, hard enough to make the car shake. She was upset, and didn't know quite what to do. She called Steve and wasn't sure whose car it was and was trying to figure it out. He asked if she'd looked at the damage yet, and she said no. Come to find out, it was one of her best friends' parents van. She's over at their house all the time. And there was no visible damage to either bumper. She was shaken up, and upset, and was worried that we would be upset, though I can't fathom why she'd worry about that. She's a new driver, who has good judgement and who has made it the first 6 months without hurting anything. She tapped someone's bumper, no damage, nobody hurt, no THING hurt, and was upset about it. Why would we be mad at her for that?! If that's enough to teach a lesson about making sure to remember to "Don't go anywhere you aren't looking", like I keep trying to tell her, or "Don't spend much time in reverse as that's when bad things happen" like Grandpa Stants used to say (and Nathan's dad too), and nothing bad came from it? Well, that's just a win!
Kaylee went to a church auction, and was shocked at how busy it was. She came home with some homemade Mennonite banana bread and chocolate zucchini bread. Deeeelicious.
Friday after school, Kaylee had to get two shots. They're required for your senior year of high school. The nurse hunted us down and made us get them by the 7th. So we got them on the 6th. Kaylee freaked out. She hates needles, she hates shots, she hates the thought, she tried to get away without them. I thought about tricking her into going and then making her do it, but instead told her ahead of time, gave her time to freak out, and then told her she had to do it. lol She sucked on a water bottle and kept laughing and flinching when the nurse got close, but she got one, then two. She takes the paper to school, and the nurse says "You got all three?" Kaylee says "THREE? I got TWO." Apparently starting this school year, the Hep A shot was divided into two shots, six months apart, brand new requirement this year. The nurse said "Yes, they just changed the rules this year!" Great. So her next Hep A shot is required in March. Two months before she graduates anyway. For a disease that basically gives you jaundice and the runs. Not fatal. She is not happy and even I think it's stupid. She had all her required shots. Then they added one. Then they added two. Now they've added three. I'm debating not making her get the March one. Unless the school will hold her diploma or kick her out with two months to go if they keep track of it or something. I don't like that stuff. And she's got a legit phobia of needles. It's been three days and she still won't hardly move her arm because it creeps her out and feels "weird" and of course is sore after two shots and not moving it around. *sigh*
It's been raining around here, thanks to the remnants of Hurricane Gordon. It should clear off sometime tomorrow I think, or the next day. There's another mass headed towards land down there--it just better stay away past this weekend, that's all I can say. Our BBQ Bash is next weekend, and right now the weather looks completely ideal. Light winds (for ONCE!), blue skies, no rain. That would be so nice. So holding my breath until the weekend. With occasional gasps of air to survive, of course. ;)
