The weather held out for the morning, so I took the Champ with the now working airspeed indicator down to Westfield and picked up the other Champ and brought it back to Kokomo for an oil change.
I stopped at the print shop and picked up our t-shirts and hats for warbird training centers, then made it to lunch about 15-20 minutes late, at Glenndale.
When I left Glenndale, I stopped by the bank for Steve, and picked up one of his debit cards, which required a signature on some paperwork him, so I ran that back to Glenndale after making the deposit, and then stuffed our bills for July into envelopes.
Kaylee had two bags of clothes, a bag of stuffed animals and a brand new princess tent to donate, but wanted it to go somewhere more than just Goodwill, so I asked the ladies at lunch today where a good place would be to go. They suggested "Open Arms", which is a rescue shelter that also helps women and children. So she was pleased to be able to help with that.
I had to go by the post office to mail off our airport bills, and then I needed to meet Kaylee at Kokomo to do a flight lesson. There was weather that was moving in, but I was hoping to get one quick hour in. It has been awhile since she flown, so I wanted to go back to basics; preflight, start-up, checklists, taxi, run-up, takeoff. We got all that done, but as we were pulling up to the runway, I looked over my shoulder and saw rain coming, fast. By the time Kaylee was ready to takeoff, it was sprinkling, and by the time we turned around and headed for the hangar, it was DUMPING. Like hard core raining. I could see three guys standing in front of a hangar staring at us as we went by, probably wondering what on earth we were doing. I wanted to go through the sequence we did, even if we didn't get to fly, so we did accomplish that at least. :) She remembered more than I expected!
We waited by the hangar for awhile, because the rain was coming down in sheets. Finally I jumped out and ran for the hangar, while she stayed in the airplane to wait it out. I pushed the plane away in the rain, though it was lighter by then, and then Dave came roaring up on a golf cart, wearing his rain coat, and drove into the hangar and handed me an umbrella, wiped the seats off with a towel, and provided some handy customer service. ;)
Kaylee went home from there to work on a project for school she has to upload by 11:59 pm. Meanwhile, I went to the store to pick up almost $200 worth of groceries, because 1) we had nothing in the house and 2) Kaylee tweeted "Breakfast: cereal. Lunch: cereal. Dinner: cereal". Now, we had a FEW other things she could have made or eaten, but still.
After unloading the groceries, I ran a couple loads of laundry, and really wanted to take a nap, having not slept the night before and having run all day, but Steve and I needed to go out to Kokomo, pick up some things, then go back into town and meet AE for dinner and to deliver some of this stuff. All in all, I made it home around 8:30 pm, where Kaylee is still working on her homework assignment, before heading off to spend the night with a friend. She's going to the Indiana State Fair tomorrow, and Steve and I are going to give T-6 rides at Westfield after a Noblesville fly-in pancake breakfast. I don't eat pancakes most of the time, and I'm not hungry at 8 am for them anyway, but that's not the point, now is it!? ;)
Kaylee in the 172 in the rain. ;)
