Heating Up

Well, the temps are warming up and it feels like we skipped Spring and went right to Summer.  I got to finish flying with a fella in the T-6 at 8 am this morning, while storms blew by very close to the north of us, but didn't aim at us.  He's officially signed off to fly a T-6 now.  I'm pickier with people in that airplane than I am in others, and I'm picky anyway.  I have a guy who wants me to check him out "in an hour or an hour and a half if need be."  I flew for 9 hours with the guy before, who was very capable and experienced.  I flew for 12 hours with this guy.  I flew for like 10 hours before I was "soloed" in it, and I didn't feel all that comfortable in it for awhile.  I think it would take someone who already knows how to fly it to be proficient enough for me to just do one hour and be comfortable with them going off on my signature.  So I haven't scheduled with that guy, because he's aggressive and pushy and I get tired of pushing back at him all the time.  One of these days I'll have to deal with him, and I will, but not this week.  I'm too busy to deal with Mr. Testosterone.

Had another fella who has his checkride scheduled, and we went up today when the winds were gusty.  I threw quite a bit at him, and he did well with it.  It took some time to get to that point, so it was refreshing to hit it today. Two flights that were good and went well today, and one flight where the fella struggled and we stopped early as it was just getting worse.  Sometimes you're nailing it and sometimes it's just not your day.  Or put another way, some days you're the windshield, and some days you're the bug.  Today had two windshields and one bug.

Tomorrow and Wednesday I hope I'm the windshield.  ;)

We're watching the weather closely, and tomorrow sometime Jon and I take the T-6 to Urbana, Ohio.  Storms are reported at various times throughout the day tomorrow, so we just have to play it by ear on when we can best both get out of here, and get into there.  And get home in a few days too.

From today's flight. I still don't wear flightsuits unless you make me.  ;)
