I got a lot done today around the house, and so did Steve. That was also much needed. Clean towels and clothes and dishes are handy.
No flying, which was fine. I've flown over 13 hours in two days, which is plenty.
Kaylee had the Howard County Music Festival tonight. It is their 61st year straight of getting together the choirs and bands from all four of the public highschools in Howard County. The girls all dress in floor-length evening gowns, and the boys all dress in suits, jackets and ties. The main choirs all get together and sing five songs, then all the bands get together and play 5 songs. They only all practice together for about two days before the actual event. That's pretty hard core, really. Kaylee was 5th seat in the saxophone section, out of a whole row of them, which is really good.
And here's where I'm still glad to be where we are. Fly-over country is my favorite place to be, especially days like today. First, there was a nation-wide school "walk out". A faction of the same people who organized the woman's march (with the vagina hats) organized this nationwide kid walk-out to protest for gun control and such. I completely stand by the right for anyone to peacefully make a statement and I know there were kids who did this because they truly felt the need to do so, and I can defend them doing so. Others were peer pressured into doing it. It felt like adults were pulling puppet strings and taking the media and turning kids into sheep for political gain at times too. I have to give them points for doing something different that definitely opened up a dialog. At Eastern, all the kids who wanted to participate met up, held hands in a circle, prayed for the 17 lives lost in Florida, had a reading (not sure what), and a moment of silence. No violence, no shouting, no signs, no talk of guns, and no media coverage of what THEY did, either. Kaylee did not participate, she was in practicing with the band for tonight.
Secondly, the program tonight. The first song the choir sang was "Blessed be the Name of the Lord". I saw further down was another Christian song, so I recorded that one. Here you have four public schools from an entire county all coming together and singing hymns at a public event. Try that in New York City. I also happened to record the last song they did. It was a patriotic theme and song, about our flag, and there was a slide show along with it. It also showed crosses and flags. It was pretty neat, and I'll try to upload them to YouTube tomorrow so I can post them here and show you.
The band did well, we always enjoy listening to them play too. Kaylee said there was one song that was super hard that they couldn't keep up with, but you can't tell it by listening to it if you don't know how it was supposed to sound. lol We enjoyed the night!
Steve and I were on our way there when Kaylee called, trying not to panic, because she'd left all her music sitting on the kitchen counter. It started at 7:30. It was now 7:10. We had to get home, get the music, and get there before they started playing. We walked in at 7:28. I hunted around for Kaylee, walking around on the floor by the whole band, and finally spotted her. I got a text from a fellow pilot, one of my former students, that said "Hello I see you". He was lost somewhere in the crowd. We got there so late that now there were no seats available on the side of the gym where the band and choir were facing. So we had to sit behind them all up on the bleachers. We were behind the whole thing, couldn't see any of the choir as they were below us, and the whole band had their backs to us. Phoo, so much for my photos! I took my good camera and big lens, too!
There I was, stretching my feet out in front of me, and I look down, and was shocked to see that I had two different shoes on. Both shoes are black, but one has a big white sole that you can see all the way around it and the other is pure black. Somehow I grabbed the left shoe of one and the right shoe of the other and NEVER NOTICED. They have different tightness, different feel when you walk, and the white is very obvious. I didn't notice when I tied them, or nothing. I pointed it out to Steve, who couldn't stop laughing, and had to tell whoever he could as fast as he could. So I took a couple pictures and sent them to him just for his own ammo. I can't believe I did that. On that note, I probably ought to go to bed!!
Here are some photos from tonight.
Kaylee down in on the floor with the band, looking around.
Nice profile. :)
She found me!
This little girl wasn't so impressed. ;)
I was trying to get a shot of her whole dress.
The band is on the floor, the choir is in front of and below us (can't see them), and the audience across the way there is w here we were supposed to be. ;)
Yeah. Here ya go. Proof.
The lighting in the house is not good, and the angle with my phone wasn't great either. But she looked lovely tonight!
(Just tried to upload the videos directly but Blogger won't let me. So I'll have to do it via YouTube tomorrow...)
